I'm usually pretty stoic when it comes to politics, but this did bring a tear to my eye. Hope feels almost foreign, but it's a welcome guest

Yeah, I know he's a politician and all and we should remain skeptical, but it's hard not to be moved by such a strong, earnest, and unconditional defense of us.

Especially since his support- has been there for decades.

Some queer youth who have wanted to start a club at school - but haven’t found even ONE adult in their school willing to be the facilitator.

Coach Walz stepped up in the 1990’s. I graduated myself in 1992, near San Francisco. We didn’t have so much as a GSA in our high school then.

So it means a lot to me to know that his students had his support in Minnesota, during that same era.

That he *specifically* upholds trans rights as human rights now, in this hotly contested election, means even more.

Glad to see this from Walz especially after the Colin Allred debacle earlier. I find it strange though some people were not happy with Harris comparing the attacks on her with the fact that prisons were providing Trans care during the Trump administration and her responding that they’ll follow the law. I didn’t take that as negative, I think some took it as her saying the law is the only reason they’re doing it, but I took it as pointing out the hypocrisy of the attacks on her for this issue that’s already been decided and was handled in the same manner in past administrations.

The Walz and Harris interviews dovetail quite nicely. I didn't have a problem with Harris but she could have done more (in a different setting?). Walz took this to where the entire Democratic should be as a baseline.

This is why Kamala was brilliant to pick Tim, instead of Gov. Shapiro. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josh_Shapiro#Views_on_the_Israeli-Palestinian_conflict

The truth is, we needed a Tim Walz on this ticket, someone to say "FU" to the phobes, and beyond just trans issues for that matter, someone who tells it like it is. And that's what MN's wonderful governor does for us, just like Erin's GF takes care of our people in MT. We work together, on this site, too. That's how we will make DJT defeated again.

Walz is just… lovable. On a personal level, when he says things like this, I just want to hug him.

He’s clearly a good politician, to see his gubernatorial record. But more importantly, he’s a good person.

Damn right. We've got the good guys, Trump is Hitler and Vance is a threat to progress, we're on the right side of history. We're gonna make it over the line, and make DJT defeated again. I just know it, despite how impossible the polls make it look, to predict.

It's a margin of error race right now. The polls are just going to make us anxious until it's over. I've stopped looking at the polls and am shifting my energy to making calls for Harris/Walz.

I’ve been hearing pundits saying that upwards of 60 right-wing contracted polls were released last week. It’s an intentional attempt to muddy the waters, make us anxious, keep us from voting, and obscure any lead Harris has. Ignore the polls.

Vance is a want to be Hitler too. He repeatedly says we are at the end of a republican period. He mentions Curtis Yarvin recently when answering questions. This right wing blogger believes we need to get over our dictator phobia. He even believes all colleges should be closed since they are too woke. This is who Vance listens to. Vance wants to be dictator too. Read on Curtis Yarvin to understand Vance’s mindset.

Get over our dictator phobia… WTF? And then what - just step aside and watch them commit atrocities?

I got that get over dictator phobia from msnbc and Rachel Maddow. She played a clip of one of Curtis Yarvin’s speeches. I heard it with my own ears. He believes a president should be like a CEO or dictator. Get a general view of Yarvin’s views reading the Wikipedia page that comes up when you search him.

Thanks for the heads up! I’ll do some reading. Just when I think I can’t possibly be *more* horrified….

I agree, except I consider Vance more like Goebbels to Adolf Trump. Trump is parroting the language of Hitler in a way that is purposeful and he promises to take similiar actions as a "dictator on day one". That will include further demonization of LGBTQ folks. The attacks on trans people have been a pattern; make transgender and nonbinary people into a threat to keep them from public life. Attack trans children's health care. Their access to stories about other trans folk. Deny they to participate fully in their schools and young life, in churches, in sports. Their stated goal is to remove our entire community from public life and they are going about it in a systematic way. Trump in the White House would be their end game. Needless to say we must do all we can to stop that outcome.

Literally researching the civil war at work today in fear of what the next weeks/months might bring for people like us - this good news is making me softly cry with some relief in the bathroom 🥲 the Walz stands tall!

Expand full comment

Civil war is pretty unlikely to happen. Fascism is far more likely to happen especially given that its already gotten a lot of foothold here. And once it hits, people will fall inline out of fear of each other.

Expand full comment

You misunderstand. If fascism is chosen, THAT will cause a civil war. Americans won't be tolerant of it, and I'll bet my bottom dollar they won't.

You’re not alone. I’m crying too.

I’m having a huge sigh of relief, albeit tempered by election worries.

I am so pleased with the Harris/Walz ticket. So far they have met or exceeded all my expectations. Now the big hurdle is that they need to win on Nov. 5. I am deeply concerned about the tightening of polls lately, and that VP Harris’s chances in many of the swing states seem to be slipping away. I cannot imagine how this election is even remotely close, given that the GOP candidate has 34 felony convictions, has bragged about sexually assaulting women, and is a cruel bully. The fact he is within reach of the U.S. Presidency is a sad commentary of who we are as a people.

I don't believe it's close, but who knows? It's just a gut feeling I have. They're making it look that way with propaganda polls, making up maps, and keeping everybody on edge ... on purpose. They don't want to make it look like a landslide, even if it is. I'm crossing my fingers, toes, and eyes. LOL

Ignore the polls! They’re all paid for and played off as normal polls by the far right reich. They want the Left and the Never-Trumpers to feel defeated and just not show up to vote!!

I adore him. I watched his speech at the HRC. He is a non-apologetic ally. Watch the speech!! And Erin should report on it. He is wonderful to LGBTQ+ people. I don’t say that easily. I’ve seen Democrats equivocate over and over again. He’s really a very decent man.

Filled out my ballot last weekend and got it in the mail. This is the earliest I've ever voted as I typically procrastinate and wait until the last minute. Not this year. Nope. I had that sucker filled out not 48 hours after I received it.

Harris and Walz aren't perfect candidates- I don't think such a thing exists- but they're the best we could possibly have hoped for, especially under the circumstances. It would have been so easy for them to just ignore trans people, or to borrow some of the still-awful-but-slightly-less-genocidal right wing talking points in attempt to woo undecided conservatives- as we've seen other, more vertebrally-deficient Democrats do- but instead, we're getting public, vocal, unequivocal support. In the face of mask-off, balls-out fascism, that's amazing. I still won't sleep easy until the results are in, are favorable, and are certified without another coup attempt, but... wow.

I like him because I think he won't shut up. If anyone gets timid, I think he'll rally people to do the right thing. He's been "for real" and has been supporting this Community for many years. But it's so nice to have an update!

I had never heard of Tim Walz before hearing he was on the short list of VP selections. After reading this post twice to assure myself it was in fact a strong supportive message I did get teary eyed. I especially appreciated when he said we would need to appoint judges!
