Using our trans community to direct, their hate breaks my heart. It feels like they're using the trans community as a distraction for what they're doing behind the scenes. As a cis, gender, 73-year-old grandmother my heart is breaking. At least, at this point, I can get my checkbook out and write a check to Planned Parenthood that I always support. Renew my membership in the ACLU. Wipe the tears away and get active.

Thank you for being an ally. We need it more than ever, and we need more grandmas like you!

Wow that’s insane. It’s like the red scare in the 50s

I fear it's much worse. I'm glad I'm not in Texas, but I'm so afraid for those who are.

Yes it’s more like the Nazis in the 1930s gathering information on targeted groups. 🤬

True. Like the Gestapo

DJT is Hitler, so, yeah. Texas' right-wing is all about him.

Me too. This is insane.

Paxton is one of the most corrupt, contemptuous, disgusting pieces of trash that has ever walked on two legs. The anti-trans crowd is disgusting and cruel, but Paxton, and his buddies, Abbott and Patrick seem to take exceptional pleasure in being as mean, cruel and discriminatory as possible, and yet Texas keeps voting them in. Living in New York may be expensive as hell, but I am happy to pay a premium for my grandson to live in peace, to be accepted and to have a government that supports trans kids and their families.

Hello fellow NYer! *Please* call your rep on March 5 - GENY will be in Albany advocating for Transgender & NonBinary Anti-Discrimination in Schools Act A4576/S1532 (Brad Hoylman-Sigal) This will require school boards to come up with policies for equal treatment of T and NB kids, ensure chosen pronouns and names are used without need for proof, require participation in all activities and access aligning with their gender, and protection of privacy. It's a great bill and NYers have to let their reps know they support it!

Cox also sent a dozen or so Utah Natl Guard troops to Texas for a photo op and picnic. Cox went to Texas as well. He's beyond salvageable from my perspective.

Paxton can go pound sand. PFLAG National is located in DC, and DC will tell him to fuck right off.

This is an act of terrorism: The unlawful use of intimidation against civilians in pursuit of political aims.

This ass is insane! An embarrassment to Texas. He escaped an indictment but pissed bc of the PFLAG lawsuit. Cowardice creature.

Yes, I live in Texas, as a therapist, LCSW, my niche is trans folx. I’m so sick of these actions and causing my clients to live in fear of their existence.

In addition, Paxton is sticking his nose into the AG races in other states. He's been meeting with and "endorsing" candidates in Utah and pushing elected and prospective officials here to adopt his policies. Just what we need, a bunch of Christo-fascist wannabe states.

Utah is pretty Christo-fascist. Governor Cox and the Utah Supreme Court, which is suprising liberal for Utah, are doing their best to hold the line, but I'm not sure if Cox will survive his next election.

Don't know if you've seen much of Cox's anti-trans hate in the last two weeks. It has not been covered in any local outlets except the SL Trib. Here's a link:

Utah Gov. Cox calls gender-affirming care ‘genital-mutilation surgery’ during ‘Disagree Better’ event

https://www.sltrib.com/news/politics/2024/02/22/utah-gov-cox-calls-gender/

And this:

GOP lawmakers (including Cox) used misinformation about trans Utahns to rally support for bathroom ban

https://www.sltrib.com/news/politics/2024/02/28/how-gop-lawmakers-use/

A couple years ago it felt like the jury was out on Cox. He's not the same person who was interviewed by Time magazine and who said we wasn't afraid of being called woke. He knows better and to me, that makes his recent actions and statements much harder to defend.

The best policy at this point is to not trust any Republican further than you can throw them.

Gov Cox said he is “an ally to the LGBT community”?

me: “Oh my, grandma—what big teeth you have!?!”

This is good to know. I had no idea. Such a shame. There are so few sane republicans left. I thought he was one of them, but even he caved to the far right lunatics.

Expand full comment

It is disappointing and also sad. He wants people to view him as a caring decent person and then he just caved to the hard right pressure to avoid getting primaried in the next election. Kind of the poster child for what selling your soul looks like.

If Paxton likes lists so much, I'm sure he wouldn't mind giving up the same info he's asking of PFLAG and out-of-state hospitals. Maybe we need a detailed list of all these m*f*ckers. We won't tell them what it's for. We'll just make them guess. Turnabout is fair play, right? I'm just so mad right now that they think they can do this...

Perhaps it's time to learn some lessons from the past. My friend worked at a mental health facility that served the lgbtqia+ community since the 1960s. The had an emergency plan for destroying all their records to protect their clients' identities and information if they were raided by authorities. An awful solution, but it seems we have regressed back to a point where such drastic measures may be necessary.
