Please contact your senators and representatives, this is a break glass moment.

This is just sad. Why can't they just leave us alone. I literally just want to live my life as a misanthropic hermit they don't even have to look at me. Just leave us alone.

This is terrifying. Living in TN was bad enough and I literally just got my family moved to a blue state, for mine and one of my children's sakes and now this.

I'm a federal employee. I have one of the best healthcare plans to have for employees in the DC area. (It's one of like 3 that cover top surgery for Transfeminine people). I finished all my planned surgeries last year, so at worst this could cost me coverage of my HRT, but damn! Wouldn't that violate union contracts? Aside from all the much worse real harm to people with much less privilege than I have...

There are no closets any longer to hide in. If you’ve changed your name or your drivers license, then you have sealed your fate and your name is on their list. It’s time to fight.

First. MTG needs to be blocked and kicked out of Congress for being part of 1/6. Democrats need to put the pressure on her and take back the narrative about Trans rights and the facts that justify them.

Next, we need more Trans leaders to step out and up and the media needs to put them on public display to defend our rights, instead of not allowing them into conversations.

Third, we need leading medical organizations like the AMA and others to testify at hearings and defend Trans Rights.

Fourth, we need every trans person to volunteer or work at every polling place in the next election.

Let’s do this. !!!

This is what I just sent to my Representative in Congress. I urge you all to do the same.

The Food and Drug Administration appropriations bill, Health and Human Services appropriations bill and the Defense appropriation bill all contain riders to deny transgender care. I have been hoping to hear you speak out publicly against these existential threats. I am pleading with you to do so now.

I would have sent more but that's all the allotted space. You can find out who your representative is at https://www.house.gov

Thank you for this wording Jane. I used it along with an additional appeal to the humanity of my

Congressman. Senators are up next!

This is really hard to read. I read about this stuff every day, but I still don’t understand why the GOP would out their entire party on the line to eliminate us. The cruelty is just too much to wrap my head around. I’m heartbroken and spirit crushed

Expand full comment

It's because the GOP are Nazis, full stop. "Anybody who isn't a cis, straight, white, christian male should be killed" if your platform if you are a Republican in 2023.

Ima go out on a limb and say yes.

Just look at the weak federal response we’ve seen. We can depend on a handful of dems to get it right.

Blast your reps and senators. FIGHT for everything trans related! We are the only ones who can stand up to this.

DO NOT GIVE UP SPORTS!

No segregation in 2023!

Apartheid policies in the US. Never thought it would come to this. If you are in a red state you're probably going to need to move to somewhere more friendly and neighborly

Expand full comment

Sadly Apartheid has existed since the end of the civil war. There has never truly been an America where ALL PEOPLE are free to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. 2000 Johannesburg had less crime, and a safer atmosphere than 2023 America. From my humble experience seeing the slums first hand, might as well be any modern city in America. At least Desmond tutu and Nelson Mandela brought peace and unity.

Yes, of course you are correct. The new apartheid is going to separate the atheists and lgbtq+ community as well. Not trying to minimize the harm already done.

Expand full comment

I agree, it’s important to find strength in unity. To seek officials with backbone, who will say no to bullies. Shut down the government. Right and Wrong are simple concepts, rolling over and caving in MUST stop.

Expand full comment

Yes. Until that day keep your head down and your chin up. There's a lot of support for trans people but be careful. Also, move away from Texas like I'm doing soon

I left Alabama after being beaten by police. Apparently I am not a Marine because I am trans 🙄. Ok hills have eyes, take your heart pills 😂. But seriously that sucked. Idk, my military past just fuels intense emotions. I also have a mouth that causes trouble 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤣. Life in America has been 12 years of a combat state of alertness, and it’s mentally exhausting.

Expand full comment

It's meant to exhaust you. That's the whole purpose. Gender segregated religious society holds no interest for me. Next we'll have laws against cohabitation of sexes and strict separation of boys and girls. Theocracy will bring about a civil war perhaps. Also ex military here

not all atheists are supportive of queer & trans folks, not all religious people are homophobic & transphobic (and lots of them aren’t evangelical Christians, either).

Expand full comment

This is what I sent to my congresscritters.

"The FDA and HHS bills moving through the House have anti-trans poison pills in them, namely the disallowing of federal funds to be used for gender-affirming care. This is horrid, it is against everything that Minnesota, a trans refuge state, stands for, against everything we've built. I want you to fight this, obviously, but I want you to SPEAK UP about it. I want to see Op Eds from you in the Washington Post, I want to see you on MSNBC and CNN decrying this GOP brinksmanship.

Speak. Up.

SPEAK UP."

If I am already actively engaging with my state senator(s) who else should be contacted? Unfortunately Hickenlooper supports SB. 1409 and the Boebert issue for western Colorado needs resolving #rockthevote

Senator, and house members, especially on the fence republicans.

ThankYou, I was serving during the bush and Obama administrations, the latter in combat. A government shutdown is essential if it will stop this deplorable use of “pork barrel” legislation to simply shove fascism down America’s throat. House Republicans are merely the “Benedict Arnold Brigade”

I have a bad feeling about this. I recently started on Medicare, and switched my hormone coverage to them. I also had a consult for BA surgery today, also hopefully covered under Medicare. If these bills pass and I lose my gender affirming care, I really do not know what I will do. There is decades of research concerning gender affirming care and how it has a positive impact on our lives. Why can't these people just let us live in peace?

A few years ago I had a few straight cis friends unfriend me on Facebook because I said voicing opinions against minorities should be illegal. This is why I said that. Transphobia has mutated so much that all the progress we have made so far to normalize and rationalize trans livelihoods is now on the political field up for debate. If it had been made illegal to even suggest harm to protected groups this wouldn't be happening. They would have no legal standing to push their hatred and they wouldn't be recruiting numbers to their cause. People like jj Rowling wouldn't be allowed to make many and long posts on Twitter and write books with transphobic themes. Instead, just like my cis straight friends from before, people argued that free speech allowed them to at least have an opinion on people who are different and now they are trying to erase us under the guise of "free speech". I'm so sick of America acting like this is up for debate. Are we free or fucking not? We keep letting these transphobes have a say in what our lives look like and it's pissing me off.

Expand full comment

I strongly feel that representative that target minorities like this should be removed from office without process. If they continuously prove that they aren't fit to care for people who are supposedly a protected class, then they are committing hate crimes and that should be enough to get them removed.

Thank you for keeping us in the know about the awfulness that is going on behind the scenes in Congress. I have contacted my representative as well as my senators. I am so worried that VA is going to become another FL with our current governor. Am working hard to keep our democratic majority in the Senate.

Agreed. VA is indeed at high risk.
