How can any elected politician possibly think attacking the individual human rights of any portion of a peaceful and law abiding population be an “election winner” is beyond rational thought. It’s also inhuman.

Precisely, time is on our side, we have the truth, we have the compassion. Justice will prevail, if we keep fighting for it.

I would like to introduce you to the United States of America, where a political party has survived for over 50 years on the sole basis of being racist and sexist trash (and giving money to the rich, of course). See also 400 years of slavery and nearly 100 years of legalized discrimination.

Excellent point. It's doubtful that mere unpopularity would stop it. After all, massive warmongering & mass imprisonment & slaughtering a quarter million or more a year via denial of healthcare & forcing 3/4 million (plausibly a gross underestimate) to wallow in filth in the streets are radically unpopular & the rich & powerful refuse to stop any of that, either.

Canadians DO NOT appreciate bigotry or demagoguery. It's never been a political winner in Canada and this loss proves it. Just as in the USA, Conservatives in Canada have been moving further and further to the right and using LGBTQ+, and specifically transgender people, as the targets for their vile attacks. Let this electoral shellacking serve as a warning to them.

A well deserved loss for a single issue politician whose mind is separated from reality. Good to know this one will not be able to make a living out of ruining other people's lives and from tax dollars of honest, working citizens.

Thanks, Erin! Hopefully this is a good sign for us in the U.S., and that politicians are taking note.

Here's hoping transgender-bashing continues to be a losing issue for conservatives!

Oh real bummer there eh bud? What an absolute tool, hope this gets Peter Poilievre to back down from his anti-trans stances, as he's most likely the next PM.

Good. Let them keep losing. It's obvious their stances are unpopular and even if folks won't say it out loud, they're saying it at the ballot box. VOTE, VOTE, VOTE!!!

Anti-trans bigotry doesn’t resonate with most of the population, but the GOP approach isn’t designed to do that. They just want to sway a small proportion of susceptible voters in swing states, where unfortunately a tiny shift can make a difference.

The polls do not look particularly good for Kamala Harris right now, with several swing states eroding, and the path to victory narrower. We can lament how, given all that has transpired, the American electorate could ever be allowing this to happen, but here we are. Though nothing is assured yet, the future for trans people in the U.S. under a Trump presidency looks very bad, and in my opinion it’s time to start contingency planning.
