Let’s hope the national Democratic Party is paying attention.

I'm sure they are. And they'll try to sabotage him.

I hope he governs effectively. DeBlasio was well-intentioned but ineffective, and New York got Eric Adams as a result.

It will be such a huge repudiation of the current "maybe we should be republicans" democrats if he wins the general, which would go a long way to setting the tone and strategy for the mid-terms in 2026 nationwide!

It's New York. Barring some sort of last-minute surprise, he'll win the general election.

Good to hear - I'm not a New Yorker, only been to the city three or four times, and I just know that the city has a history of electing suprisingly not-progressive mayors, given how progressive the city's reputation is. Glad to hear he should win! That'd be great for all New Yorkers!

Thank goodness! I hope that the rest of the DNC is watching - solidarity with our community doesn’t hurt people, only when they stand against us do they risk negative consequences.

So fantastic for the candidate and all Trans people and their families…

This is a good example for those within the Democratic party who keep asking us trans people to sacrifice some rights in order to supposedly win. We need more examples like this.

This is great news and I hope he wins the overall mayor’s race in the general election.

We desperately need progressives that will protect the right to GAC where it is still allowed. Without that, I’m concerned it just collapses everywhere.

Thanks for informing us in detail on this matter, S. Baum. ILet's hope that Mr. Mamdani will managed to keep his promises. Regardless, it does suggest a path forward for more progressive democrats, thoufh we should remember that it appears that he did not win a majority of the primary vote and garnered only about 10% of all NYC voters. Indeed, if Democrats do not come together before the general election, a Republican might get elected mayor.

Lots of things could happen, but Sliwa (R) winning the Mayor’s race is less llikely. More of a concern is Cuomo running as an independent, that would be a more favorable race for him than the Primary. He stands a good chance to win that one and has already said he intends to run for it.

What serious dilemma. While the transgender community desperately needs this type of support, this man had no words of sympathy for the people of Israel after the barbaric attacks on 10/7 and Israel is the only nation in the middle east where it is safe to be LGBTQIA+. His promises are also fiscally impossible to accomplish without bankruptcy the city. He also doesn't have the actual authority as a mayor to do what he claims he will do. He is promising a $30.00 minimum wage, free child care, city owned grocery stores that will provide groceries at cost, defending the police and sending social workers to scenes of domestic violence, hostage situations, and most crimes. His plan to fund this is to "Tax the rich." All that will do is cause the rich to leave and the city will find itself unable to fund basic services. He is like a kid running for class president that promises "no homework" and "no detention." The community needs to find better candidates than this to support; a candidate that runs on a platform of transgender rights are human rights, and that medical treatments are between a doctor and patient, and not for the government to decide. That is a stance that most Americans can buy into.

I am sure I will be viciously attacked by his supporters for being a realist about him just being another lying politician that will say anything to get elected.

Great points Al, those are valid and real concerns. It’s important for DNC to take note that despite these concerns voters still prefer him over Cuomo.

This also shows how valuable ranked choice voting is and why politicians are afraid of it.
