Ah, yes. First it was the sexist framing of all women as inherently confused, mentally weak, emotional, and easily coerced, with all men being dangerous predators who women need to be protected from (and implying that these factors invalidate trans people).
Now they're framing people with autism and ADHD as intellectually inept, socially inept, incapable of making their own decisions, and incapable of making sense of their own thoughts. Transphobia is always rooted in one form of bigotry or another.
Looks like autism is going to be the eugenicists' point of re-entry into public discourse, both here in the Benighted States 𝘢𝘯𝘥 over there on TERF Island. Because, y'know, why 𝘯𝘰𝘵 just chuck a dollop of eugenics in the blender, too, at this point? What could 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘺 go wrong?
There is definite overlap between autism and transness, even if being autistic doesn’t necessarily mean one is trans and Vice versa. I’m both autistic and trans, for instance, and I know others who are!
Controlling "minors" is a large issue in society, in the UK and the U.S. People openly question existing laws, regarding sex behaviors, automobile access, school requirements, work eligibility, rights of parents of older teens vs. their own rights. This garbage we see in this story reflects that, and it's something to combat that the UK has so strongly gone in that direction. It's happening to the U.S., too.
We generally allow driving on public highways and roads at 16. Yet the most basic GAC would have to wait till 18? Not even *parents* could consent, as if I'd let it be up to them either. People have personal autonomy and freedom to choose. I'm not exactly entirely convinced, for example, that "bottom surgery" is such a great choice, that it requires quite a bit of commitment, yet I am not trans and wouldn't substitute my judgment for their own. That degree of GAC requires the right kind of commitment, let people choose, even if they're aiming to have it before turning 18. Puberty blockers and hormone treatments aren't for everyone, but to flatly ban them before 18 is ludicrous, they've been proven to save lives, to improve the quality of life. We simply need free choice.
I agree with you, though I didn’t specifically express such in my original comment. The thing that most worries me is that blue state governors mostly haven’t been putting up the resistance that is needed - with the notable exception of Gov. Pritzker of Illinois. By and large, blue states, universities, and companies are caving - which is disheartening. It’s exactly what fascism thrives on.
When I recently had the chance to directly challenge a prominent gender critic recently, I asked her to explain why talking about autism was anything but a red herring. Even if every single trans person in the UK was also autistic, cis autistic people would still outnumber them, possibly as much as twice over. Even if for the purpose of argument, autism was a necessary condition for being trans, it is clearly not sufficient given most autistic people are not trans. All she had in response was some waffle about needing to understand why a particular minority was overrepresented, which is hardly a compelling argument for her mission of banning juvenile transition. I knew the argument was specious. It was a pity I couldn't press her further on account of numerous other trans people in the room with their own challenges which deserved to be heard.
If these politicians and fake "pro-women" scientists believe in their own garbage, they should be the first in line for testing—administered by independent scientists from outside their echo chambers.
If they think autistic people can't be trusted to care for themselves, then they can prove it by surrendering control over their own lives.
By their own twisted logic, they'd be stripped of any authority, removed from public office, and silenced from policymaking.
No more anti-trans, anti-women cowards hiding behind fake science. No more frauds pretending to "protect" anyone while clinging to their power. They'd be finished, just like they deserve.

This sounds so much like something that Dr Mengele would have been proud of

Sad that it'd come to that.
Missouri wanted to ban any trans care includiing adults if that were autistic in the beginning of 2024, thankfully it failed.

Controlling minors leads to Controlling of adults too.
It's all about enforcement of "norms" because difference makes them uncomfortable and we can't have that 🤪😡

Free choice is what they are against.
Surgery is rare for anyone.
It was looking so good for trans people ten or so years ago. The pendulum has really swung back. We just want to live our lives.
Surprised it took so long I'd I'm being completely honest.
The UK sounds like a dreadful place for trans people, on so many fronts. At least for now, blue state America is a lot better.
I don’t know how long it’ll last though. I love being trans in NYC, I feel free here, but I can see the writing on the wall…

Gov Pritzner is the best . Fuck Newsome . I always thought he was a pretty boy fake . He has zero integrity and he’s a loser !

Tim Walz in MN is holding strong!
Distrust any government collecting information that incudes names. With blind data they can not "disappear" you or have you be defenestrated.

When are they going to start the conversion concentration camps? This is insanity!
