As a clinical social worker/psychotherapist this bill runs head first into the code if ethics I follow. I'm going to reach out to the NASW to make sure they are aware and taking action on behalf of trans clients and professionals in West Virginia.

Yeah, it very much violates the code of ehtics

I am a transgender psychiatrist in West Virginia. This is a gut punch. What can I do? This feels like a state of emergency.

Honestly, get with your national professional orgs

I'm sharing this with my therapist as both a warning of what might be to come and as a national call to arms for the counseling profession.

Now if only there were a cure for being a nasty ass conservative.

Deportation, perhaps?

Skinned alive defenestration through a salt crystal window?

What?

So I'm creative ?!

Why is the cure in these bills never gender affirming care? It would be quite simple

This is disheartening and disgraceful. Unfortunately, if the recent experience in Ohio is any guide, right-wing legislators are not going to waver in their extremism one bit, in response to any arguments or data that get presented. Sadly, I feel like nothing is likely to make a difference anymore, other than relocating to a politically blue state. Trans people are in crisis across much of America right now.

The "cure" for being trans is trans affirming care. By using that, therapists can help "cure" trans people.

Or more precisely, the "cure for gender dysphoria" is trans affirming care.

OMG, why..... with all the issues communities are dealing with, this is what the Republicans spend their time and energy on?

In order to understand the larger intentions behind the attacks on trans

people at the state level, I’ve found it helpful to read the work of historians of anti-democratic movements, especially Ruth Ben Ghiat.

"Christian nationalism" and white supremacy are the diseases that need to be cured. These disturbed and unstable people are obsessed with causing our suffering. This is a legitimate humanitarian crisis that isn't generating enough public attention. Too many people have become desensitized and just aren't reacting to the resounding alarms. They're preying on every single marginalized group and won't stop until they have all of the power.

This is the most genocidal anti-trans legislation I’ve seen yet

The genocide progresses...

Scary stuff. I'm bracing myself here in NC for the unfightable feeling bullshit we've been dealing with having Republican supermajorities. Trisha Cotham really ruined our state almost singlehandedly this last year.

Ok time to fill balloons full of blood (or a blood like substance) ,load them into a shirt cannon and paint the courthouses with our “blood” as protest (maybe a few republican personal residences too). And if that doesn’t work maybe it’s time to throw bricks again

Those who are most enthusiastic about policing gender and sexuality tend to have above average rates of sex scandals. Projection much?

Um, there's nothing to cure. WTF?

West Virginia is where most of my family lives - including my 91 year old grandma. If this passes, I'm not sure I'll feel safe enough to go visit them ever again.

Evil and disgusting. Despite how terrible the news is for us and our siblings, I remain so grateful to you, Erin, for the work you do here. Thank you. Be safe and well, everyone.
