The Jeffco School District in Colorado deserves praise—not threats—for refusing to abandon its policies protecting transgender students. Civil rights should never be negotiated away because of political intimidation from the federal government.
It is now incumbent upon the Colorado Governor and Attorney General to stand shoulder to shoulder with Jeffco and defend these students by every legal means available. Failing to do so would be a failure to protect one of our most vulnerable communities and would send the message that bullying by the federal government works.
Protecting transgender students is about ensuring every child can attend school safely, with dignity, and without fear.
In the early 1940's Colorado Governor Ralph Carr stood up to FDR and refused to back the internment of Americans of Japanese dissent. He stood by his principles and suffered political damage as the result. Today, the Jefferson County School District is making a very similar stand. Once again, an innocent body of people are being assaulted by our federal government for purely political reasons. No crimes have been committed. The victims are, once again, being punished for simply being who they are. What the federal government plans to do, as punishment, is going to be very painful for the school district. True courage will be seen if and when the Jefferson County School district announces that regardless of funding termination, they will not sacrifice the innocents. I hope that courage and principles prevail.
Asked Bennett's office where they stand as a candidate for governor and haven't heard anything back. Need erected people to take a position so we know who we're voting for. Silence is not acceptable

I do have one criticism, which is the fact that the "61 male students" were neither athletes nor, often, students, should have been the lede.
Good to see Jeffco putting up the fight against the lawlessness of the Trump regime.
