This absolutely needs to be challenged in court as soon as possible. Political officials should not be in the business of practicing medicine. If this is allowed to stand, besides its devastating effect on trans people, what’s going to happen for the next group of patients whose medical treatments are deemed politically incorrect?

This is so freaking terrifying. First, the fact that it affects all ages. Second, that the AG can circumvent the legislature. No one is safe now. I’m heartbroken for my siblings in MO. and I’m absolutely terrified for myself and all trans people in the country

This forced deconversion therapy is Christian conversion therapy by another means. Their identity politics is Christian. The Christian State is here.

“it’s not fair. But since was America fair”.

Oh Milo. My heart breaks for him and every transgender adult in Missouri, and we all know this Republican cancer is spreading.

How are politicians all of a sudden practicing medical care? Does this mean that medical schools are obsolete? Just become a politician instead? I mean: why do we go to school for anything really? We could all become politicians and decide what we are experts in that way. So much easier. And it saves a lot in $$ for student loans you no longer have to take.

This is obscene.

I can’t even hit the like button on these stories anymore. There’s nothing about these types of articles to like. I’m a trans MtF living in Florida and I’ve literally been panicking so much over the new rules here as well as the upcoming rules that will become effective July 1st that will make it a crime chargeable with jail time, a $10,000 fine, and require transgender people to register as a sex offender for using the f’ing restroom. I’ve missed days a couple of days at my internship because I have been so emotionally stressed over this, especially because my internship is in a state office. I am more afraid to use a f’ing bathroom in Florida than I was being a special operations paratrooper on the front line of combat in an infantry company in Iraq where 7 guys in my unit were killed. Terrified to use a women’s bathroom in Florida, but combat somehow I’m no longer fearful of.

I'm disgusted and heartbroken. This poor baby. All these poor babies and adults.

I love you all. You're valuable and important. ❤️

This seems like a clear violation of procedural due process. I can't imagine a competent court upholding it, unless it's part of the campaign to "eradicate transgenderism from public life." But it must be challenged for anything to happen.

I have a friend in Missouri and she's terrified. She's been on HRT for over 10 YEARS. How can the AG just unilaterally do this? It can't be legal. 😡

This is so ridiculous. That AG is an inhumane idiot of the highest degree. People are going to die and I hope he gets buried in civil lawsuits and criminal charges.

The fact that politicians are allowed to lie and ignore data and pass laws that affect masses without voting or even with voting is going to be the downfall of this so-called democracy. It just shouldn't be legal. America has too many loopholes in the name of state governments. This is clearly discrimination. It shouldn't even have to go to court when politicians do this. We should just be able to ignore unethical laws like this and watch them fizzle away because they so clearly violate rights. And the politicians should immediately be removed for unethical behavior. I'm in missouri and I'm so frustrated that this is happening. My life is here, my job, my school, my lease, my Vet down the street, my insurance, my sick grandma, my short commute to work, my sister and niece, my friends and support system, everything I value is here. I can't just leave. I just can't believe that they'd be allowed to take my rights directly from under me for no reason other than their own personal agenda. It just doesn't feel possible. Even if it is overturned eventually and allows future generation to be protected, it just feel unreal that in 2023 this is even an issue. Such disregard for human life and fact. It's sickening.

I am desperate for an explanation on how this happened and what specifically gave the AG the power to circumvent the legislature like this? It's bad enough that it happened in MO, but we need to know exactly what (if anything) is keeping this from happening in other states, especially as we head toward the end of our sessions and start organizing for 2024.

Transgender social contagion!? I hate having to say this out loud but what will they come up with next, internment camps to contain this “contagion”? This is surreal, and so scary that they justify inflicting these cruelties, there’s no other way I can think of saying it other than this, in the name of their ‘religious’ beliefs.

While Virginia is far from great, especially with Youngkin and reversing the previous guideance for trans youth in schools, I'm so fortunate to live in the DC area and be a federal employee with all the protections that everyone in the country SHOULD have.

I have to wonder how this Missouri regulation would deal with me, having bipolar disorder, and having had bottom surgery (so no natal sex hormones)...

And the bathroom laws? Yes I was AMAB, but FFS, top, and bottom surgery, I would think that I hardly belong in a men's restroom...

Erin,

Does paragraph 1(C) " for subparagraphs (2)(C)–(K), continuing prescription or provision of a specific intervention that has already begun, so long as the person or health organization promptly seeks to initiate the treatments and assessments called for by these subparagraphs. " allow for continued treatment and HRT for anyone currently receiving prescriptions as of 11:59 PM April 26th?

Hi there Erin!

I'm Luka writing in from SQSH, the St. Louis Queer+ Support Helpline. We're a local, grassroots, community-based organization in MO working to facilitate healing justice and provide holistic support for queer St. Louisans to thrive.

First, I wanted to say thank you for your crucial coverage of anti-trans legislation; your work provides so much visibility to trans Missourians who are fighting for and suffering under the MO AG ruling right now and ongoingly. Thank you for your journalism.

Second, I wanted to share out some of the work and information that local trans-led groups (PROMO, THISTL, MTUG, SQSH, The Shades Project, KC Transformations, PFLAG, TransParent, etc.) have received and collectivized around. This information gives us more hope about trans Missourians' ability to continue to access gender-affirming healthcare. We're collectively balancing the urgent and devastating impacts of Bailey's ruling, with equipping our community with resources to plan for the worst-case scenarios, while not causing undue panic. Would you be willing to review our coverage so far and uplift some of the latest updates that we believe would provide more hope, resilience, and accurate information about the MO AG ruling to our community?

This is devastating. The Trans Empowerment Project has come out stressing how trans people need to stay in states like Missouri. Otherwise that would be abandoning states like Missouri, to what end I do not know. I’d say, any who can afford to GTF out of Missouri should do so.
