I mean shifting to the right was such a great strategy in 2024 and totally didn't backfire. πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„

ILoveKitties's avatar

The Dem establishment has been pulling us to the right since 1984.

Thanks for nothing, old white cis guys πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

Maybe they should listen to Harry S Truman’s sage advice:

> If it's a choice between a genuine Republican, and a Republican in Democratic clothing, the people will choose the genuine article, every time

Grant's avatar

Exactly. At least the Republicans are intellectually honest to admit they don't give an f about poor people.

Trans Poetic's avatar

woof that is real.

David Axelrod, James Carville, and David Plouffe have been doing this BS since the 90s. I am so sick of these assclowns pulling us further and further to the right to appear "centrist". That's how we got to where we are now. They need to retire to their private islands and stare at the waves. The Clinton years are long gone. Enough with appeasing the centrists. That's no longer working. And I say that as a 61 year old. Get these people out of politics. We need more people like AOC. If Harris wants to stay relevant, she needs to move further to the left. The Democratic party of the Clintons is dead. Establishment Dems need to recognize that.

BTW, is it just me, or does Carville resemble Skeletor???

Cayetana Navarro's avatar

I'm convinced the word BLOVIATING was invented JUST to describe Carville.

Punkette's avatar

Yes he does! I loathe Carville. He’s so last century. 😀

Why am I not surprised that those clowns are perfectly willing to hang us out to dry, even though it has been proven during the last election, and subsequent special elections, candidates that have our backs do far better and win more than those that throw us to the wolves.

Joel W. Crump's avatar

Yeah, they want to win by making us lose again. Fuck 'em.

Michelle Paquette's avatar

Um…. β€œWhen they go right, we go right!” Isn’t the winning strategy they think it is.

Once again they cede messaging control to the Republican Party, and to their most noisy, reactionary wing. This is not a great look. β€œWho do we throw under the bus this time?” as a key element of political policy isn’t comforting unless one is an old white Protestant/Evangelist man.

Talia Perkins's avatar

Wait. Wait. Why am I under a bus?

Who put me under this bus?

Glen's avatar

There was a vote at the focus group and we lost

ES's avatar

I will never understand the idea that people will go for diet republican and they can win that way. It isn't a great stratagy historically.

Kassandra F.'s avatar

It didn’t work out for Kamala, it won’t work out for any of the others if they choose to swing to the right

Joel W. Crump's avatar

Harris did pick Walz. I think she did enough to attempt to be genuinely on the left, albeit the Gaza war didn't help, etc., but going forward we need to be *aggressive* about our issues, not run away from them. These old white dudes are unconvincing to say the least.

Rachel Walker's avatar

These are people who are both convinced that β€˜true’ Americans are centrists and also deeply despise the left side of politics in general. Like Macron in France. Eternally arrogant that they are correct and incapable of changing.

This right here is why I want to leave. There is no opposition party. This country's cultural identity is one of violence and hate and I lose more faith that it can ever mature past that every day.

William Flug's avatar

Do what you need to - but I hope you don't leave. We need your spirit!

Ellie's avatar

My spirit won't do you much good from the inside of a death camp.

Such a stinkin’ pile of bullshit. As a mom of an adult transgender child the treatment of the LGBTQIA2S+ community is my top priority! OK, yes, I am but one voter but my other two children and their spouses also list this as one of theirs.

Perseus's avatar

i'm so tired. i'm sure you all are too; hang in there everyone. thank you for reporting on this, as always <3

Terra M.'s avatar

Yeah, see, they already tried this in the UK. Margaret Thatcher came to power, reversed the entire course of the government, and what did the the left wing do?

They tucked their tails between their legs, surrendered immediately, rebranded themselves as "New Labour" and abandoned their principles to become lukewarm right-wingers. Thatcher considered it the biggest political victory of her lifetime. Neo-liberalism is just a wolf in sheep's clothing.

And now we call it TERF Island.

Joel W. Crump's avatar

Right, TERFs are the last people we should emulate, if we want to win, they're curmudgeonly, ignorant, full of misplaced hate. I've seen it consistently, the way they criticize everyone but themselves. We need to take on these anti-progressive stances, inspire people to vote for something.

Lee Ann's avatar

Their advice is a GREAT way to lose me and much of the LGBTQ community. If I had wanted to do what they suggest, I would move to the deep south where people with these kinds of attitudes are much more prevalent and open about their hate.

Devin's avatar

They won’t gain back the voters they lose by doing this. I’ll be at least one longtime reliable dem voter and campaigner who will NOT VOTE if they attack us in any way

KathyPartDeux's avatar

It’s repugnant that they seek to polish this turd by calling it the WelcomePAC when it’s the opposite of welcoming.

And weird how they don’t recognize that the most pro-transgender President ever - and the most vocal on supporting transgender people and policies was the guy who beat Donald Trump- Joe Biden.

It’s the consultant class that advised Harris to not speak on equality issues that caused the low voter turnout in places like Philadelphia- leading to Trump winning his second term.

This bit from the article sums it up for me: "β€œDeciding to Win” also displays little awareness of what winning elections is for. "

Thank you. That was well worth the time to read. Can you follow that writer?
