On Tuesday, news broke that Minnesota Governor Tim Walz was the Kamala Harris' pick for Vice President on the Democratic ticket. He has been a vocal ally of trans people in his state.
YES! I have been vocally advocating for Walz to be the VP selection among friends handicapping the VP race, so I am absolutely delighted by this news. If you've ever seen his "charming and disarming" takedowns of ridiculous right-wing nuttery, you immediately recognize that he can effortlessly dismantle hate and bigotry positions cloaked in anodyne "policy speak" while somehow still coming across as someone you'd love to go have a drink with after the debate.
He's considerably more progressive than Kamala, so he actually balances the ticket nicely since she's actually fairly moderate. He should really energize very important sectors of our base while also appealing to independents and never-Trumpers with his humble and plainspoken folksy charm, PLUS his impressive record of progressive accomplishments in Minnesota.
This is a huge win for the parents of trans youth because now we have a presidential nominee who has been doing the work to assess the needs of our kids, and we have a VP candidate who already did the work in his own community. I am so happy about this ticket in a way I thought virtually impossible just a month ago.
He is one of the reasons I'm so glad we live in Minnesota - dislike losing him. However, he's just the person we need as VP to continue protecting trans people and keeping progress going.
What a wonderful read. I am headed off to go camping in the mountains and this is not a good time to be away from cell service or Internet. At the time I decided to go I thought I needed a break now I think I just need to stay and enjoy the positivity in the news. I had hope when Biden dropped out and now even more hope with the VP candidate.
I love our Govenor ❤️. I proudly commend him to our nation to take everything he's done for us in Minnesota to the our beloved country. Harris/Walz ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I am very excited by Gov. Walz having been chosen for the Democratic ticket (though Josh Shapiro and Mark Kelly would have been okay too). Walz is a wonderful choice, and his ticket with VP Harris is one that we can all get solidly and enthusiastically behind!
Y'know, I'm still not going to relax until January 20th passes without a babbling sack of half-digested Cheeto sludge becoming President again, but at least that outcome seems more likely now than it did a few weeks ago. Harris/Walz feels like a good ticket. Both candidates appear to understand why Biden's campaign was failing, beyond just the age stuff, and what they need to do differently to actually win. I'm cautiously optimistic. Not hopeful, not yet, but... leaning ever so slightly away from wanting to just go crawl in a hole and pull the hole in after me. So, that's a nice change of pace.
He also later signed a "trans sanctuary" bill into law in MN after having signed the executive order. I couldn't be happier with this pick.

He is the ultimate Democratic Dad. Lol.
Totally he’s got that 90’s sitcom Dad charm that Democrat Dad would totally have. I’m so happy she picked him!

Is this Hope I am feeling?
Hope is Walz' lovely daughter
