One of the biggest stains on our history is the past (and not so very far past) system of forcing Native American children to leave their families and attend boarding schools designed to eradicate any trace of their Indian heritage - language, customs, culture - because this heritage was considered "wrong," and it was the moral duty of Western Christian society to re-educate them. These schools were cruel and dehumanizing. The actual welfare of the children was ignored.

Looks as if this fundamental evil lives on, dressed in different clothes.

Forcing children through conversion practices because of who they are has a horrific history in this country.

This is a great comparison

“We care about kids!! So let’s make abusing and torturing them legal.”

Christi-fascism in full display.

No different than taking a cis het kid and forcing them to transition or into a same sex relationship. True to script in that EVERY horrible thing that these people accuse the LGBTQ+ community of, they are actually doing it and worse.

Christo, not Christi! Fucking auto-correct (or was it just fat thumbs-I do appear to have also typed "in" and not "on") screwing up a perfectly good comment!

This has to trace directly to legislation authored by Alliance Defending Freedom. Oregon and Washington have legislation that prohibit fostering by parents who do not affirm LGBTQ foster kids. ADF is suing to overturn that, essentially forcing kids into these homes. It is evil and it is horrific.

Alliance Defending Freedom has had a huge presence this session. I just sat through a hearing where an ADF guy testified about how awful and sneaky our public school’s “gender support plan” is (my child has one, it’s a wonderful thing to have in place that keeps kids safe). ADF & Moms For Liberty basically own our statehouse.

LFMs? Even after the president’s sex scandal down in Sarasota?

Why can’t we just let people be who they are? This harmful pressure to conform to whatever some nazi-type says is normal is behind so many injustices in the world

Being a cishet neurotypical Christian white male is not the fucking default or ideal or anything

Diversity is beautiful. Let people be who they are. Celebrate it. Conformity is for the insecure.

How is this not indoctrination? The very thing they have been challenging? Absolutely cruel.

Who ever challenged that? Sigh

TN can just f*** all the way off. I'm even more of an atheist now. This is just cruel

I'm with you. Just trying to figure out how I went from zero to even more (or less) zero.

Besides being morally distressing and cruel, this piece of legislation makes very little sense to me. Why would anti-LGBTQ parents ever want to adopt an LGBTQ child in the first place? Are there people who would really go through that elaborate and fraught process specifically to attempt to convert them? Just doesn’t make sense to me, maybe I’m missing something.

They want to be able to "cure" these kids through Christ's love. There's nothing scarier than a dead-eyed zealot who thinks he can "help" you.

My gay brother who was in the foster care system for many years can attest that this is definitely a thing.

Gee, I don't see any problem with putting a child in a home where their parents might consider them to be possessed by demons. No problem or conflict in that relationship at all, right?

High kudos to Justin Jones - he is a real child advocate and a powerful voice. Can we clone him?

Phobes shouldn't even be allowed to adopt cishet children.

This is cruel and punishment for these children. What a terrible thing to allow.
