But there were 4 abstentions, including Elissa Slotkin who is not an ally. She will be giving the Dem rebuttal to the Trump’s speech tomorrow and I wish they had picked a stronger advocate.
I am very happy this bill has failed. I thought it probably would, but nothing is guaranteed in the intensely anti-trans rhetoric-filled world on which we live.
That being said, Republicans will no doubt try to find another way to enact this legislation in the near future. We have a lot of work ahead. Always remember that anti-trans zealotry has no stopping point.
Such a relief! My trans daughter loves sports and played on a girls volleyball team for the first time recently. She was so happy when I told her this failed.
The U.S. Constitution sets clear limits on the government's power. This means the government cannot legally discriminate against people based on sex or race. Why? Because the phrase 'We the People' in the Constitution's preamble includes everyone. It means all citizens, regardless of their background.
While some political policies today may seek to divide us based on appearance, the original Constitution and its first ten amendments (the Bill of Rights) were designed to ensure equal treatment. The Constitution does not authorize the government to treat people differently because of their sex or race.
Ultimately, individuals should be judged by their character and actions, not by their skin color, sex, or any other superficial trait. This principle of equality is fundamental. Recognizing and respecting our individual differences is essential for a just and unified society.
Just called and left a very angry voicemail for senator Slotkin. Feeling pretty disgusted for having voted for her right now; very disheartened to hear that this bill failed in spite of her, not because of her.
Thank you as always Erin. I have to prepare myself each day to read what has happened now, but I am so grateful to have your powerful, truth-telling voice out there. Please know that it makes an enormous difference.
Big win! Glad to see no dems defecting on this one, too!

I am a Michigan resident and will be calling her office tomorrow. I encourage any other Michiganders to do the same.
S. Baum's post said "Democratic Senators Elissa Slotkin of Michigan and Peter Welch of Vermont", who are the other two?
I’m pretty sure there’s 47 D+I (53R). There were 4 total abstentions, but 2 were R’s, while the other 2 were the two you mentioned.
Any idea what the story is with Slotkin? I was surprised to see this, so thanks for the info.

totally agree and you write so well. thank you
Thank you David.
Thank you, Erin! And thank you everyone who called/emailed their Senators!
Now I am taking time to thank those Senators.
Thanks for the reminder!
That is such great news!!!! 🩵🩷🙌🌸🥹🩷🩵
I just called both my Colorado Senators and also my HoR to thank them for voting against this.
I think it's imperative that we all thank our Senators and our HoR if they voted against it so they know we're watching and we appreciate the no vote.
I just thanked my Senator too. We only have one Senator here in Wisconsin.
Very glad to hear this! Quick correction: Elissa Slotkin is a senator from Michigan, not Minnesota.
Finally, elected officials showed some spine and courage! Woo hoo!
Excellent. And Tommy tumorswill has got to be the dumbest senator to ever hold office, just wow. Alabama, for shame.
That fucking guy.
Time to send out our private emails thanking the legislators who spoke out and managed to do the right thing.

Finally some good news, it's like a tiny Oasis in a massive dessert.

I am soooo happy! I did call both of them today. Now I will send emails thanking them for making it die.
When we fight we win!!!
