I heard about this study a few weeks ago from Ev Nichols’ Queer Science Lab newsletter, where they specifically expressed their ethical concerns regarding the study. It’s an excellent read, linked here (https://queersciencelab.beehiiv.com/p/i-have-major-ethical-concerns-about-the-adolescent-and-young-adult-gender-dysphoria-outcomes-study-a). I asked if they had contacted any LGBTQ+ organizations at Northwestern to let them know that this study was happening, and since they had not and did not plan to I am working on doing so. I know that actions taken by student groups aren’t a sure thing, but I felt like they should know what was going on at their school since they are in a physical position to make it visible to more people at NW. I'll link this article as well!
Good grief. ALL of these "doctors" are known quacks. Let's hope that nobody volunteers for this "study". One would think that Northwestern would intervene and cancel this as well as disavow and distance themselves from people like Blanchard and anyone associated with him after the AGP debacle.
I went to graduate school with Bailey. He was a pretty dull turd. We took the same core stats classes, and he really struggled. I guess that's why he's allergic to statistics today. At the time, he was studying racial differences in intelligence, or some other racist shit.
Later, when he came out with his "Queen" book, I tried contacting him to explain, in good faith, why he had transgenderism all wrong. He refused to talk to me. I was his peer, academically, but I guess he regarded me as someone beneath him - because I was trans.
Bailey is an unfortunate stain on academia. I apologize to everyone here for not having spat in his face when I had the chance.
I feel like “Anti-Trans MAGA Researcher Once Studied Attractiveness of Children” could be its own article and is so disgustingly on brand for maga and anti-trans creeps alike.
Researchers aren't allowed to recruit for studies until they have IRB approval. So if they have that approval, anybody can contact Northwestern's IRB to report an allegation of misconduct.
Misconduct can be detected or observed by other means. Plagiarism, fabrication, & falsification are the main types, along with deceiving or mistreating participants. I just don't understand how this got approved if it did.
I am confident it did pass IRB because it is superficially acceptable. That is why I am certain we would need interpersonal communications and a copy of the survey to build the charge.
These people are monstrous. How can decades of science and centuries of history validating trans people be dismantled by people spouting hate from the 1970s? These regressive ideas have been disproven for decades.
Serious concerns surround both the recruitment process and the legitimacy of Gensgret’s so-called AYAHDOS study.
When participant recruitment lacks transparency or appears selectively targeted, the integrity of the entire study is called into question.
Research built on unclear sampling methods and potential bias cannot credibly claim to represent broader populations or be used to justify policy decisions.
Science demands openness, rigorous standards, and independent verification — not studies shaped by who was recruited, how they were recruited, or what outcome may have been predetermined.
Until full disclosure of recruitment practices and independent review are provided, the AYAHDOS study should be treated with skepticism, not authority.
Northwestern should also be asked questions about this study and how it is being conducted as it is under their research Dept I believe .
Those who want more detail about the leaders of this "study" will be interested in what Lynn Conway (recently deceased professor at the Univ. of Michigan, member of the National Academy of Engineering among many other honors) has said about Mr. Bailey. Conway was one of the giants of the mid-late twentieth century in her efforts to record history as well as reality in a day when the public knew little about us
Finally nice to see you all move on this. I posted about this over a month ago here and another post was made on reddit around that time. I literally got told by people here to take the naive "wait and see" approach and "we will beat with facts like we always do" prep talk. Like the world is great for us now.
S. Baum, you have missed the worst of Zucker's frauds -- long after the DSM5 was published, he continued to use DSM4 definitions of who was/might be transgender -- he conflated them under his solipsistic term "pre-transgender" and then claimed all who never sought medical transition were "cured" by him and his conversion therapy methods. That fraud by Zucker is the origin of the most recent claim that 80% of transgender youth "detransition", and by detransition there they mean desist.
"They’re recruiting people with gender dysphoria between the ages of 13 and 25 who “think” they “might be trans”"
That is consistent with that fraudulent methodology. Only youth meeting the criteria for what is now F64 or HA60 (ICD11) could "desist" in any clinical context. Or survey.
Researchers from our tribe wouldn't be welcome. This is, at its core, an academically dishonest project. I mean, how many researchers/authorities/experts from our tribe were invited to participate in the literature review for HHS? It's really the same sort of thing. The conclusions are forgone, and the "science" is fraudulent.
It's not a bad idea to do some undercover investigative journalism. It's a very novel approach. If the study involves interviews, it would be interesting to have recordings (at least audio) of how subjects might be led to give certain responses.
I've been thinking a more direct approach might actually be to conduct a legitimate study on this alleged phenomenon - to determine whether there is anything to it. (In the sciences, one must keep a neutral perspective.) IMO, the best way to counter bad science is with good science. These academically dishonest studies should not go unchallenged in the scientific literature.
Not sure where you are coming from here ? I think I go with Erin’s comment “none of "the team" of "lead" researchers themselves being transgender” and work.
And the jury’s out on the reliability of the work done and published. It would be good to see some independent reviews (from reliable science sorts eg BMA or Australia Medical Association). Not CASS… nor HHS
Bailey is in the Psychology Dept. Zucker and Littman have no institutional affiliations, which is, I suppose, why this study is being run out of Northwestern, with Bailey being in charge of all data collection.

Excellent. Just a thought. What about “previously” instead of “once”? Once is easier to shrug off, like a one-off. Great title, though. Clickbait.

I'm just going to leave this here: https://irb.northwestern.edu/about/contact-us/
Insidious and downright creepy. Can we ever go a single day without more of this shit being flung at us?
Manufactured consent. The goal of papers like this is to artificially create a societal "need" to enact violence upon us.
How much longer before papers like these are used as a basis to unilaterally institutionalize us?
Not sure why... but I am not reassured by the image of a 100% male AYAGDOS team...
Nor by none of "the team" of "lead" researchers themselves being transgender.
Perhaps there's an opportunity to "plant" someone from our tribe into the study?
Volunteers needed for special mission?
Researchers from our tribe wouldn't be welcome. This is, at its core, an academically dishonest project. Exactly!

I agree with what you write. I was thinking of “undercover”
Nefarious is as nefarious does…

I can recognize a dark humor aspect to misgendering Littmann purposefully and in this narrow context, but I'm not sure you realize you did that?
Not sure where you are coming from here ? I think I go with Erin’s comment “none of "the team" of "lead" researchers themselves being transgender” and work.

Where am I coming from ? !!!!
Littmann is a woman.
"but I am not reassured by the image of a 100% male AYAGDOS team..." <-- Not correct!
Ah I see the image of the team in Erin’s article is all male.
My apologies on this “misassignment” for a women who is not in that image.
Ah. The team doing the suspect survey is at the top of the article, three people, Littmann to the left.
Why is it always a group of insecure men who occasionally recruit a woman or two to make everything seem legit?
Spot on
What program or department are these people housed in at Northwestern? Inquiring minds would like to know.
Bailey is in the Psychology Dept. Zucker and Littman have no institutional affiliations, which is, I suppose, why this study is being run out of Northwestern, with Bailey being in charge of all data collection.
