I'm not, by that note, jumping into the anti-Newsom bus - there are pros and cons to this slick politician. Just noting that the CSU administration, including the chancellor, initiated this action, and it's not clear that the state government even has the authority to overrule. They can fire said chancellor, of course, and they are not going to do so, I'm sure.
San José State University deserves clear and unequivocal praise for standing firm in the face of political intimidation and refusing to abandon transgender women students to fear, exclusion, or discrimination. At a time when threats and rhetoric are being used to pressure institutions into erasing vulnerable communities, the university chose principle over politics and dignity over division.
By affirming that transgender women belong in academic spaces as full and equal members of the campus community, San José State has demonstrated what real leadership looks like. Universities exist to expand knowledge, protect students, and uphold fundamental fairness — not to yield to ideological campaigns that target a small group of people for political gain.
Attempts to single out transgender students for exclusion undermine the very values higher education claims to represent: inclusion, evidence-based policy, and respect for human dignity. San José State University recognized that protecting transgender women is not a controversial stance — it is a moral and educational responsibility.
Courage from institutions matters. When universities refuse to bend to pressure rooted in fear or misinformation, they send a powerful message to students everywhere: you are safe here, you are valued here, and you will not be erased.
San José State University has set an example other institutions should follow — standing not just for one community, but for the integrity of education itself.
Yes! Take the fuckers to court! It's always worth remembering how fuckawful Don the Con's track record of legal success is when his cases actually go to trial- and his maladministration has some of the worst lawyers to ever buy their way past the Bar Exam. Add another L to his growing pile!
I love a reading about success. I am a bit over the hill and back reading about everyone seeing the taco. I can't even guesstimate how many pieces to my in box mentions they are sueing. ACLU must have numerous lawsuits filed. There are so many lawsuits they almost seem frivolous. I don't have any answers. What I like reading about are the times businesses, organizations, schools and individuals say "HELL NO"
Good for them. Trump and the Republicans don't really care about women's sports Just listen to the locker room talk after the men's hockey team won the gold medal!
It's all about control and getting people to bend the knee to Herr Trump.
FWIW, I actually saw the SJSU volleyball team play against the UNM team. Blaire Fleming was very good and played all through the match. But she wasn't that much better than some of her teammates or the girls on the UNM team.
So, SJSU grew a pair of balls? Or was that breasts? Very PROUD of them for standing up and saying NO. tRUMP is a waste of a sperm, egg, and a couple seconds of time.
Just one special call-out in this celebration of a battlefield win: thank you for using the term "regime" for the band of demons whom the press all-too-often calls an "administration." The only thing they're administering is doses of evil and inhumanity. The Calif. SU system, with a real administration, shows what that's like.
There are less than ten trans athletes in the entire NCAA. Out of half a million. This should be a non-issue. But they're obsessed with us.
All it took was one single trans athlete at SJSU to get their knickers in a twist.
Yes!! Love this!! Finally an institution showing integrity.
About damn time someone is putting their foot down! Bravo!
Never would I have believed that the Newsom administration was acting more in defense of Trans people than the Mamdani administration.
Shows you what I know.
Newsom had nothing to do with it.

Rob Bonta, our AG, is firmly on our side.

Fuck the trump administration.

I'm happy to see somebody stand up to them.
Thank you. Very good to hear of it.
Love to see it!!!
I'm so glad to see a university stand up to this regime - especially one in the CSU. Let's hope all 22 stand up for their students. Great job, SJSU!

Finally, someone with some balls! Way to go SJSU! I hope this will inspire more institutions to have some guts.
