This is why we need to continue to educate our youth about how and why we got here.

Everyone remembers Sylvia Rivera and Marsha P Johnson , right?

Trump’s administration officials have released their own version of Phlogiston ( https://simple.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phlogiston_theory )to continue their Crusade against the Transgender Community and the LGBTQIA AT LARGE! Throughout history there have been many instances of the use of Pseudoscience to combat and prevent the spread of the TRUTH of Scientific FACT! The same applies here in this utterly absurd report about Transgender People! And the people who believe this Tripe are just as Ignorant as the people who believed it in the 17th and 18th centuries! It’s GARBAGE SCIENCE! And it is being promoted by GARBAGE POLITICIANS who have no interest whatsoever in the truth, but want to use it to further promote HATE and divide us so as to better Control Us! Don’t let them!! 👿

This piece by Mira is spot on. Never for a moment was this about science. It’s about politics, and ultimately about bigotry and hatred. Republicans politicians have no stopping point. They have shown that repeatedly. That why strongly resisting the bullies is the only path forward now, not “compromising on sports” or anything else. Give them your lunch money today, tomorrow you will get stuffed into a locker.

A wonderful article appeared by Ari Drennen on Substack a few months ago entitled “Changing Your Sex is the Ultimate High Agency Move”. In it, she explores some of the reasons why transness inspires such visceral hatred from so many people. It’s insightful to read.

Thank you for writing this. It's important that actual science and expertise are accessible for those of us who are fighting back in the media, in our churches and in our conversations with friends and family against this administration's efforts to erase the trans community.

Why, it's a veritable who's who of experts and organizations that will definitely 𝘯𝘰𝘵 be allowed to testify in opposition to the next several hundred anti-trans bills!

Meanwhile, that bullshit hit-piece of a "report" will haunt us for the next hundred fucking years.

Tired of this shit. Really, really, tired of it. Maybe we need a revolution because what America is is toxic, corrupt, and failing. One way or another, it will fall.

Sorry, I hit the wrong key and posted an incomplete comment. I think we should flood MIT with demands for Alex Byrne’s immediate removal.

Erin, thank you for this summary of the immediate resistance to the HHS "report", and for the call to action, with which I totally agree. One point I think needs making, though, is that WPATH should not be characterized as an "activist organization," similar to GLAAD or Lambda Legal. WPATH is a small medical association that has published and maintained the Standards of Care (SOC) for over 45 years. Those standards are one of the primary reasons we have access to medical transition, and transgender health in general (regardless of transition status). It's important to understand that now, in the courts of law, where for decades the SOC have been accepted as the "gold standard," today, our community's antagonists constantly attempt to disparage WPATH's expertise and authority by urging judges to disregard the SOC because they claim it is merely the output of an "activist" or "advocacy" organization. WPATH is where the leading research scientists and healthcare professionals working in the field of transgender health regularly gather to exchange knowledge and improve the knowledge base that informs the SOC. The association does not make a lot of public statements, nor does it attempt to do public relations on behalf of itself or the transgender community, and this fact is a major frustration or disappointment for many trans people and our allies, but this separation of the science and professional education from advocacy functions is intended to preserve the integrity of the knowledge base that informs the SOC. I urge you and your readers to realize this, and the complex history that has brought us to this point. WPATH is composed of dedicated volunteer healthcare professionals, doing the association's work in their spare time, without compensation. Their commitment to the field deserves respect and appreciation, and the SOC (always a work in progress) also needs to be understood contextually and defended, as part of our collective self-defense at this historic moment. Thank you for all that you are doing to speak truth to power and inform us all through this unprecedented time.
