Whatever happened to Martin Luther’s “everyone their own priest before god?”

When you combine that with Saint Gaga’s “Born This Way” it becomes clear that god herself wants me to be trans 🤷🏻‍♀️

This is not Christianity. As a Christian I am a *follower of Christ*, and NOWHERE in the Bible did Jesus ever act anything like this. It's heartbreaking and disgusting. I don't understand how they cannot see that they will be held accountable for their sin of blasphemy, and it will be worse than whatever sins they're accusing anyone else of. God is love, period. Anyone acting out of hatred is not following His commandments.

They are not Christian, they are Latter Day Pharisee. They happily put Bronze Age Witch Doctors in place of Christ's example.

You are absolutely right. My son called them Pharisees just the other day. Idol-worshipping and saying it's in the Name of Jesus.

While I'm not a Christian I did take a year of Religious Studies in college and I absolutely remember how well the description of the Pharisees relates to these anti-trans so-called "Christians" and others who use their religious beliefs to abuse people.

These people need to read Matthew 23 and really think about Jesus is saying when he condemns the Pharisees and hypocrites. But we all know they don't actually READ the Bible. They just use it as a cudgel against those they hate.

This is called the “no true Scotsman defense”. They are self-described Christians, and the sooner y’all recognize this and reckon with it in your own religious circles the better we’ll be. Accusing them of not being Christian only serves to deny any accountability on the centuries of hate and discrimination done by all manner of Christians.

They are Christian. Go clean your house if this fact bothers you. Or leave. I did.

Hate to tell you this, but this IS Christianity in America and around the world. As evidenced by its leaders and the legislation they are passing. Instead of shaking your head and saying, "not my Christianity" own it and either work to fix it, or leave.

I loathe this guy. He's only got 3 options though to accept based on the "science" people scream about when it comes to us.

- Mary was intersex (only way for Jesus to get a y chromosome)

- jesus was a trans man

- the entire religion was made up to control weak minded people

Outside of that you have no other options that fit the science.

We know option three to be a fact. As for one and two, definitely food for thought.

Where's the lie tho? Trans people shine a bright light on every single equality gap that exists, top to bottom, which proves it doesn't matter who or what you are, you can become who you were meant to be. It completely invalidates the mentality every single racist, sexist 'superiority from birth et al' complex a person can have. That's why all these people are so against it or can't understand it. It shakes the foundations of our society from Capitalism, to The Patriarchy, to organized religion itself, to their cores. They are all built on inequality based on birth.

We are the apple. We are the word. The whisper inviting humanity to take a bite and open their fucking eyes.

Only time Lucifer is mention in older Bibles was some king and Jesus.

Lucifer means light bringing. AKA Venus because is lite up as the morning sun started to rise.

So, in conclusion transgender people are closer to Jesus as we bring light. Thanks to the uniformed fake Christian OH elected official for connecting the dots for other.

I have yet to encounter a single Christian who understands the history of biblical text well enough to comprehend that the biblical pretext for anti-LGBTQ hatred was manufactured in the second half of the 20th century after a new translation KJVR version published in the US in 1951.

On the "Red State Religions" segment of the excellent podcast "Straight White American Jesus," they recently featured a Kentucky Jewish woman's lawsuit against the abortion ban on the grounds that it violated her religious freedom. She wanted IVF, but couldn't get it because of how the law defines embryos as people. She argued that Judaism and conservative Christianity define the beginning of life differently so she should be free to use her own faith's definition. It's currently on appeal. Perhaps trans people can bring Religious Freedom Restoration Act claims about gender-affirming care!

Well that's nice. The passage in Isaiah is talking about the king of Babylon, not the devil. "Lucifer" as the devil wasn't a concept until we get to Roman Christianity. The tale of "Satan's fall from heaven" isn't even from the Bible. This guy doesn't even understand his own religious texts.

Years ago, the concept of sex/gender transition was largely a medical one, understood and expressed largely in those terms. That included the criteria by which the transition would be recognized, and ID documents changed. That’s not to say that there weren’t scattered voices of opposition, it’s just that it was largely understood, by most reasonable people, as a medical process with medical criteria, and as such was relatively non controversial for a long time.

But what has happened in recent years is that it has been largely separated from the medical criteria and has become a largely social/legal definition. This has opened the doors to all kinds of backlash and political and religious opposition. These people probably always existed but this change allowed them to get their foot in the door. And now we are seeing the types of vitriol and loathing that is expressed in Erin’s article - from people that would not have felt comfortable being so vocal in the past.

In some ways I regret that the concept of transition got so separated from its medical criteria and roots. What has happened politically as a result has been a disinter for trans people. While it’s probably too late now, I wish we could get back to the old days when gender dysphoria was seen as a medical issue needing medical attention, not political vilification.

As a nonbinary person who mostly feels that I lack any sense of gender, I call bullshit. This concept of transition reinforced the false sexual binary and heterosexual hegemony.

People like me would have been forced to transition "fully" to make only to find out that that wasn't right either. Not everyone is safe to or wants to transition via surgeries which are expensive and have risks. Not everyone can take hormones because of the health risks of those.

These bigots have been steadily gaining power for decades by erroding American society (local and state politics, education, media) and Trans people were just the most convenient target: we're a very small group and our very existence challenges their rigid Christo-fascist worldview and heirarchy.

See that existed then too but it was within the community . It was called androgyny and we (my kind) were butches . There was play with pronouns but it never got brought into society . I lived in the lesbian world and most of us even though transition was an option ( I lived in middle America) . Had only heard of a few transsexual women back there. There was not this kind of fury back then about transitioning . Hell few people even knew about us and most of us weren’t out to make a statement . We were just being true to ourselves which was the whole idea . I think anytime any group starts proselytizing something in a big way there is always going to be back lash . That goes for both sides . I’m not saying it’s any body’s fault but I do see some cause and effect here .
