Talk with your therapist about diagnosis codes. Regardless of where you are located, there are very few situations where a gender dysphoria diagnosis needs to be rendered outside of accessing medical care. Adjustment disorder, an anxiety disorder, or depressive disorder more than cover presenting concerns. It's not lying on part of the therapist to do this and it can help protect privacy.
This law applies to promoting or affirming social transition in general, regardless of whether a diagnosis of gender dysphoria is accurate or necessary. Most providers aren’t going to use their patient’s preferred pronouns or help them navigate circumstances related to transition at the potential cost of their license. For trans patients that have already changed their legal name and gender markers, this basically bars a provider from even being allowed to engage with them at all.
It also fundamentally blocks these patients from being able to obtain psychological letters of support for ANY gender affirming medical care that requires it.
This isn’t just about a diagnosis. It is erasure and exclusion of people based solely on their trans identity.
Not really sure what you want me to tell you. I know this is about erasure and how shitty this is. I know this will impact access to care. I know some therapists are going to oveecomply and drop clients. I have been watching this garbage in Ohio unfold from 50 minutes away and across the state line since 2023. I would love to have an easy solution to fix all of this. As it is, best I can do is advise people to try to keep themselves off of third party providers as much as possible and control what they can control.
And yet at the same time require us to see one in order to get gender affirming medical care.
They just effectively banned all GAC for trans adults not using private insurance or paying out of pocket - even without the bill explicitly targeting that. And I’m sure that was the point.
Conservatives actively want to harm us. They will not be happy until we are all either back in the closet, in prison, institutionalized, or dead so that they can pretend we don't exist. Many of them - especially the religious ones - would be happiest with the last option.
So it's no surprise that they're for cutting off even mental health care for us. Every death this leads to will be a Republican policy victory.
Conservatism is a fundamentally anti-human rights, anti-science, anti-empathy worldview.
Some might ask, perhaps, why I care so deeply about trans-identity issues and rights. This kind of story tells in no uncertain terms why - we're up against political opportunism with people's lives at risk, at stake. It disgusts me. A tampon in the men's room doesn't hurt anyone. A trans woman putting on a bathing suit doesn't introduce anything sexual to the environment, the paranoia of that is astounding. The OH et al politicians can't be stupid enough to fall for the propaganda, but they can be spineless enough to pander to ignoramus constituents, and pass legislation like this. We'll never tolerate it.
They want trans people to die. To go away. To "eradicate transgenderism". I know all this and my heart is still sick at this latest development. I wish other countries (*cough* Canada) would recognize US citizens are rapidly in need of asylum.
Well, what does "promote or affirm" mean here? It seems to me they can now block the services themselves but not the individual therapists unless they go so far in HIPAA violations to stay that they are affirming or promoting any specific thing.

I fail to see how this helps anything.

*keep themselves off of third party payers radar
They don’t even want us to see a therapist or licensed mental health doctor.

They say it's a mental health problem then deny mental health. I really hope more people start waking up and seeing this for what it really is.
It's so far from over, I'm not sure we're through with the beginning of the beginning. We've barely even begun to show up, as far as I can tell.
Like I’ve said before republicans must be voted out of office so trans rights and other human rights can become law

Mike DeWaffle at it again, I see. I wonder how he can walk, with that fence wedged so far up his backside.
Governor DeWine is an uncaring, wishy-washy human being AT BEST! This is his horrible attempt at trying to ride both sides of the fence.
Cleveland Clinic has already shut down its youth gender medicine program.
