I’m a cisgender almost in tears. How can people be so cruel? So ignorant?

Janice Hoffmann's avatar

Come one ciagenders, be outraged! Don’t let them do this to our trans friends, those we’ve met and those we’ve never met.

Joel W. Crump's avatar

Yes. My GF is trans, and moreover, if even one person was trans alone, wouldn't that person be worth something? Aren't we "made in God's image", FFS? Aren't all people "created equal"? God damn it, phobes need to grow up.

WillHotkiss's avatar

And what about “love thy neighbor “?

Joel W. Crump's avatar

Yep, I'm not playing around with these idiots, they will either cope and be cool, or they will face consequences for their discrimination.

Vanessa Schmithorst's avatar

Because cishet men are, generally speaking, cruel and ignorant. Kindness, compassion, and appreciation of knowledge are for sissies, doncha know.

Ouch. Not in my family, extended family, friends, coworkers. Even before my family realized we had one; years later one married in; and, now extended family has 1 more, nonbinary/transfolk in our family.

All bathrooms in Odessa should immediately be marked as "Unisex".

“Republicans aren’t Nazis” 🥴

Due in part to the inherent difficulty in identifying transgender people who can pass as their preferred gender, as well as identifying gender non-conforming people who may conform when in public, the Nazi government relied heavily on reporting by private citizens (often neighbors) in order to persecute transgender people.

Margaret Clark's avatar

hence persecuting transgender people and cis people who may not dress the extremes of some assumed gender rules.

Would have nothing to do with this, but to condemn it. These are palpably not Christians doing this, but Latter Day Pharisees.

You know them by their fruit, right?

The seeds of white nationalism, as we call it today, they can pretend it's "Christian nationalism" (an oxymoron, God isn't America-centric, are they kidding?), but it's white nationalism, were planted by the authors of Leviticus, influencing Paul later on, corrupting Christianity to be something to be exploited by the pigs. The egalitarian, sensible mindset we have is what God and Jesus really want, for the world, but these churchgoers who hate (what's the fuckin' point of that?) are endlessly convinced they are doing "the Lord's work", and anything going against it is Satanic, even though they have it backward. Fortunately, that's about to be publicly contradicted, once and for all.

I'm in Austin, I wonder what we'll do if they try this statewide. Probably make all the bathrooms unisex.

Bathroom bills were originally my line on leaving Texas, but part of me is just so pissed I want to stay out of spite. So much is riding on an election and a court case.

RRMother's avatar

I’m from Austin too, with a trans teen who now refuses to use any restroom anywhere outside of this house. It makes me so sad and so angry. These people have corrupted my Texas and turned it from a polite and kind state that I was proud to call home into a living hell. Hugs, friend. And a LARGE ‘rita.

Mira's avatar

I'm so sorry to hear that. It's been a hard year as a trans adult, and I think a lot about how much harder it must be for kids right now. I do think Austin proper would be a great place to grow up trans, if only the hate campaign died down and we managed to get durable recognition as a protected class.

Big hugs back for you and your kiddo.

This week's "On the Media" has a segment on what makes a country facist. Demonizing a group of people is one way. The next step? Incentives for your neighbors to turn you in. These people behind these laws justify it as not being facist by comparing themselves to the Nazis. We'll get you money for turning "them" in. Nazis would send you to a concentration camp. See how much better we are than the Nazis.

Or do I go to far.

A rose by any other name...

Elise's avatar

...or are concentration camps just around the corner?

Oh heck no Here it comes with public humiliation and a show trial. " You are DENOUNCED!"

"One transgender man by the name of Eric brought up this point, asking the council, “Do I look trans to you?" and pointing out that one cannot always tell who is transgender."

Eric is a very brave man.

Thank you Erin, for reporting this ridiculousness.

WillHotkiss's avatar

I guess us trans men should obey the law and go into the women’s restroom 🤷‍♂️ it’s almost like they are mad that Florida hasn’t arrested anyone yet that they can make an example of. I think we would make the wrong example…

KathyPartDeux's avatar

So if my friend and I sue each other we can cause Odessa to waste money?

Kaleigh's avatar

Your idea reminds me of Utah trans reporting web site they set up and we send them all kinds of false reports, memes, and every thing else to make them waste their time. Enough people did this it would waste Odessa’s government time too.

MICHELLE PATE's avatar

I’d love to start seeing cis women getting ‘reported’!

Talia Perkins's avatar

Their stupidity should hurt, and cost.

allie's avatar

Thinking the same. At least we could tie up their court system.

Nicola A's avatar

I can't tell if the consequence is intended or not that now every cisgender man can claim to be a transgender man and use women's facilities.

Talia Perkins's avatar

UNO Reverse!

I love this. That is beautiful!

SjRook's avatar

I'll be in Odessa Monday. I'll be sure to break some laws and get in good trouble!

Talia Perkins's avatar

Lemme know if you need help with bail! For this I'll throw in.

The cruelty is intentional. How do you get someone to go back into the closet? Or drink themselves to death? Or jump in front of a train? The goal is to rid the world of trans people by removing basic human dignity and functions- like being scared to death because you have to pee.

Just reading this story impacts the mental health of trans people. I appreciate all allies who are speaking up. Lord knows no one is speaking to trans people like me about this.

KingRayVet's avatar

That's part of the plan. Suppress/oppress our voices so nobody can refute their bullshit or hear us. Very intentional that they're not getting our side of this. They make us all look like cowards, and that makes me fighting mad. It's like we have to sneak into corporate media, and who of us has enough clout to do that? SMFH

Shervyn Von Hoerl's avatar

Can we ban TX cis men from all bathrooms outside TX?

Abbie's avatar

No folks, this is what happens when you live in a city who elects, stupid ignorant, bigoted city officials

Avery's avatar

Ah yes, because all of the trans people here just chose to live there and can easily choose not to. This is a really ignorant thing to say.

Abbie's avatar

Supposed to be “now folks,”

KathyPartDeux's avatar

I prefer to blame the perps who try to prevent me my freedom of movement guaranteed by the Constitution.

Talia Perkins's avatar

Poe's law. You may have fallen afoul of it ; ^ )

It just begs the question: Don’t these people have anything better to do than harass 1% of the population over imagined bogeymen? WTF is wrong with them!?

RRMother's avatar

They’re purposely doing it. (1.) it allows them to be outwardly cruel, (2.) they can scare away the people they don’t like, don’t understand, and don’t want to, (3.) it pulls attention away from the shit they’re really doin behind the scenes. What are you doin over there? -Oh!Nuthin’LOOKATTHATSCARYTHINGOVERTHERE!!!!
