Stress was mentioned as a potential cause of heart disease in transgender people. The anti transgender activists and politicians are a significant contributor to stress among transfolk. Perhaps we should be blaming the anti transgender movement (if it is a true movement) for the increased prevalence of heart disease among transgender people?

There is definitely high amounts of stress right now, including high amounts of stress PERSONALLY, as someone who sees this and has to rapid-response cover it.

Yes . . . you are on our frontline and we are grateful you are doing this work. I know i could not do what you do for us. I’ve focused my activism in other quarters.

Again thank you!

That's a very good point! There are indeed studies pointing to stress and denial of care as factors in the development of heart disease and other illnesses. Many of us have had to repress our identities for decades, and many still have to hide to protect ourselves. That's unhealthy, and we have to work together to overcome the challenges. As an older, relatively new to transition, transfeminine person, I really want to thank Erin and all sisters, brothers and others, for lighting the way as we move forward together. πŸ’–πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ

I transitioned 30 plus years ago and to this day feel the stress of dealing with the anti-trans oppression/oppressors. I had thought we were past that, but clearly that is not the case. Once more we see some want to force us to deny our selves and back into the closet.

I often think of Brandi Carlile's song "The Joke," where she says, "Don't ever let them steal your joy." That's a great song about facing the forces of hatred and staying true to our own reality. Trying to keep hope alive. πŸ§šβ€β™€οΈ

The sheer amount of stress my partner is facing over her own transition is causing her anxiety attacks severe enough to give her internal chest pain. I'm scared to death she's going to have a heart attack or a stroke. It's literally the transphobia and mistreatment causing this to her, especially at her work place (Navy, working with a ton of 'good ol' boys' on repairing airplanes for carriers). Her union is working hard with her to go after them, but, it won't do an ounce of good if she can't make it out the other side in one piece.

every publication you mentioned in this post is associated with inflammatory and poorly researched articles, usually with a rightward slant. I wouldn't trust ANY of them to tell me anything about science.

Misinformation is the name of their game. Everything about this, to a rational person, is paranoid, hate-mongering, mentally firewalling anything that could change their mind. There is no threat from trans people. Only from phobes, only the divisive politics that further erodes freedom. But the fight has only begun.

The misinformation campaigns are to indoctrinate enough people so in the future they can attempt to pass legislation against us. They are literally trying to legislate us out of existence.

Thanks to educators like Erin, we're gonna stay ahead of them. It's a tough battle, but we have the truth, the logic, in the debate. And this post, today, is a sign that this really is an advantage, which we intend to use.

If estrogen therapy was so bad for trans people it would also have the same affect in cisgender people. This is nothing more than priming the pumps to take away our hormones.

Even if it did I'd still take my E. Everything is so much better on it than not.

And that's why this is not a matter for legislators. Even if the study actually said what they claim it does, it's up to each patient to decide if it is worth the risk for them. The same goes for any of the thousands of drugs people take every day that treat one condition and raise the risk of something else. These people act like trans care is optional and therefore not worth any risk at all.

And just like with abortion, this is a bodily autonomy issue in that people who think they know better want to make the decision for people who actually *do* know better, such as the people affected (i.e. pregnant people and trans people) and their doctors.

You know what’s life threatening? My brain being forced to run on hormones it’s not suited to. When I started HRT my brain and my entire perception and interaction came alive. The color of the world became apparent for the first time. I will not give this up

I can and will order HRT from Vanuatu before I detransition.

I have a question, what about the COVID factor? Could the fact that COVID is a thing and is raising heart disease rates for trans people (in addition for cis people)? Did these studies even account for COVID?

Olivia Ann's avatar

The time period of the study was 2000-2018, so no covid.

Well they're a tool to push through care bans. Something for the anti-trans witnesses to cite during testimony.

So suddenly the anti-trans groups are so concerned about the cardiovascular well-being of trans people? Yet at the same time they want theocratic geniuses like AL gov Kay Ivey and her prehistoric bloviating medical expertise β€œI believe the good lord…blah blah blah…” making trans people’s healthcare decisions. Now the gov Iveys of the world are cardiologists too. As if the cruelty weren’t enough, the arrogance of those participating in organized hate-for-profit is astonishing.

For them, sadly, the cruelty is the point. They seem to enjoy finding new ways to torment those they've chosen to hate. Years of supressing our true selves has been a major contributer to the cardiovascular illnesses that many of us have developed. I give thanks to the younger ones among us who are strong enough to stand up for all.
