Once again, Erin thank you for your constant vigilance and reporting on issues pertaining to all of us, trans people❤️🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈 I am getting ready to relocate to Washington state in a couple of weeks, and we’ll register to vote once I establish residency. I’ll tell all my friends if you’re not registered to vote wherever you get registered and don’t think it doesn’t matter.
I wish we could see this kind of momentum against the Colorado anti trans ballot measures…
No Hate in WA State currently has hundreds of sponsors including national organizations, politicians, businesses and political parties and they’re frequently doing events like this. Meanwhile, the campaign opposing the Colorado anti trans measures currently only has about 20 sponsors, all of them local, and no politicians, businesses or political parties are listed and so far their campaigning just overall doesn’t seem to be as strong. I really hope they step up their game! :(
Washington State voters are being asked to consider Initiative 001 and Initiative 638, and both measures raise serious concerns about privacy, dignity, and the treatment of students. One proposal would force schools to adopt restrictive policies targeting transgender students, while the other has been criticized for subjecting girls seeking to participate in sports to intrusive and humiliating examinations. These measures are an invasion of privacy and risk causing significant physical and emotional harm to young people.
I am encouraged to see leaders such as Pramila Jayapal and other community advocates speaking out against these proposals and defending the rights and dignity of all students with the NO HATE In WASHINGTON slogan. Washington’s schools should be focused on education, safety, and inclusion—not policing students' bodies or creating an atmosphere of fear and suspicion.
The driving force behind these initiatives is Brian Heywood, a conservative wealthy political activist who has previously spent heavily to advance conservative ballot measures. No amount of money should be allowed to override the fundamental rights, privacy, and well-being of children. I would like to see Mr Heywood subjected to type invasive inspections as he is pushing for girls.
Voters should reject these measures and send a clear message that Washington values fairness, respect, privacy, and the safety of every student. Children deserve support and opportunity—not invasive scrutiny, political targeting, and government intrusion into their personal lives.
It would indeed be sexual assault, to examine the girls' private areas. It's not anything like a physician looking down there, for example, a medically necessary thing, it's intrusive, weird, downright sick. If I were a parent, I'd never accept that.
The kickoff party was great! The campaign has been getting organized for some time now, and lots of other organizations are joining in. I'm a Co-Chair of the Advocacy Committee for PFLAG Seattle, and we're featuring their literature at our booths at all Pride events.
Rep. Pramila Jayapal is an amazing person! I've known her since she formed the Hate-Free Zone organization following the 9/11 attacks.

Love Jayapal.

"One ballot initiative could force tens of thousands of girls to undergo invasive genital exams each year just to play school sports."
I hope it fails. Happy Friday!
Thank you Baum.
