A new bill being heard in South Carolina would ban mental health providers "aiding and abetting" youth transition. This language could gag providers from talking about treatment options for dysphoria.

So there is a moment from last week's "expert testimony" from Matt Sharp from the ADF that confused me and I AT LEAST want to call them out on this... I have sent emails, texts, and video evidence to Senator Richard Cash (Committee Chair and unfortunately my Senator), and Senator Brad Hutto, minority leader of the subcommittee. I await their response. (I acknowledge the bill is awful, but I am really trying to get them to EXPLAIN why they SAY ONE THING and obviously are doing the opposite in the bill):
The transcript goes like this...

Sharp: “Treating those comorbidities that a child is facing because again there’s evidence that you treat those and that resolves the gender dysphoria.”
Cash: “So watchful waiting is not necessarily doing nothing.. you’re talking about psychological counseling that deals with identity issues or medical issues, correct?”
Sharp: “That’s right, and all of that would 100% continue to be allowed under SB627, all this bill is focusing on is the medical side of things.” (Sharp goes on to describe that this includes the puberty blockers, hormones, and surgeries)

Unfortunately, the only outlets that are giving consistent, high quality reports (such as yours) are only seen by a small section of the population, usually those in the LGBTQ+ community. We need to get this out there so that it can be seen by a wider audience, so that these assaults on us are brought to light. Stealth and backroom deals are helping these bills get passed, we need to bring them to light so that everyone can see how destructive they truly are.
Keep fighting the good fight Erin, we will get through this one way or another.
