I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again: once the SCOTUS overturned Roe with Dobbs, that meant all hell broke loose and leopards could now feast on a banquet of faces. It’s just that the faces the leopards like in particular are those of 🏳️⚧️ folks.
Every accusation is a confession from these people. Just turn an eye to Florida and the Ziegler power couple championing anti-gay rhetoric but having ménage a trois in their own bedroom. Rules for thee but not for me is the game for these bastards.
Also, how do you pass a law saying companies can’t boycott your state? Like, how would that even work hypothetically? Are these people on the same drugs Elon Musk are taking and think it’s blackmail if people don’t give you money?
I am the same way. I'm gonna give it everything I have this year and see if we can at least put a dent in the lies and fascism. Gonna rally as many people as I can to stop this shit. Ain't nobody got time for this Republican fuckery! My trans-daughter and ALL trans kids/families have a right to do what they deem is best. The government has absolutely NO business meddling in medical matters or any of these other issues because they have ZERO expertise, professional training, or professional experience, and they don't give a fuck to learn anything from those who DO know. It's like asking a marketer to do brain surgery because they wrote a generic article about it once. C'mon.
I left and I haven’t regretted it for even a second. Not everyone has the means to leave, and others prefer to stay and fight, and both are very valid. But Missouri is extremely hostile to us, and so far I’ve had much more agency and ability to do meaningful activism in Illinois, as well as feeling relatively safe in my day-to-day. There are a disproportionate number of queer people in my town too, which makes community fast and easy
My goal is to get my kiddo, who is non-binary and graduation high school this year, the hell out of here. As a middle-aged cis lady, I can stay for a while and fight the bigots for a while longer.
These bills are hateful, cruel, and disgraceful. If any of them progress, I hope the Missouri ACLU will oppose them strongly. Such efforts were what saved the state earlier in 2023 from effectively what would’ve been an adult trans care ban - which for a time, until overruled by a court, sent people scurrying to neighboring Illinois for treatments
What sick paradoxical mental gymnastics does it take to remove and refuse anti-discrimination protection status to a group of people, but grant anti-discrimination protection to people specifically to allow them to discriminate against those groups of people? There's no rationale, moral or logical, that explains the hypocrisy or actions of the Republican party with an answer beyond hate and vile.
Wow, living in Minnesota and watching the trifecta blue government get to work to pass legislation that actually makes life better for citizens I'm stunned at these efforts to just make life worse for people 😒
All of this hateful legislation perpetuated by Republicans is creating psychological terror within our community which is no different from what Hamas is doing in Israel.
This is why I wouldn't even consider going to my field's annual conference in Kansas City in 2024 (AWP, the Association of Writers and Writing Programs, for small press publishers and creative writers). Erin, do you think it would be more helpful for the conference to boycott states with such legislation pending, or would that further isolate trans writers/publishers in the state?
Hold up. So according to these people a child can’t know/understand/make decisions about their gender and sexuality but they can get married? So they are ok with actual sexual assault on a child because of some mental gymnastics that have to do with Jesus. Wow.
Its that time again :-/
Fuck these fucking fucks! Fuck! I’m so tired of this...
@Janelle - you wrote "Fuck these fucking fucks!..."
I do love how you captured their essence so succinctly. Well said!
I hear you Janelle. It's extremely tiring.
That's also what they're hoping for - to wear out down and get us out of the fight.

I personally think that these folks are WAY too concerned about other people's sex lives.
I always end up wondering why.

Missouri sucks. I go back and forth between "stay and fight" and "GTF OUT"

Fun Things to do When You Travel to Missouri!
1) Leave
My home state is a dumpster fire. Illinois is just across the river, though, and so far it has been very good to me.
VOTE, VOTE, VOTE - get these radical fools OUT of office.

Conferences should be rescheduled only in states with travel bans imo. Florida as well as potentially Kansas, bc both have bathroom issues.

What’s happening in NH? I can’t find anything on it.
