Maryland is the 12th state to enact policies that refuse compliance with out of state laws that target transgender people. Governor Wes Moore signed the order on June 6th at a Pride event.
Wonderful news! I’m glad that there’s a growing movement against the regressive policies being enacted in other states. Fingers crossed that more follow suit.
Wonderful news! Maryland is a great state! The usual oft-cited caveat applies, though, which is that if national legislation against trans health care or other trans issues ever gets passed - a horrifying prospect - would such protective state laws have any chance?
Every state which is not currently run by conspiracy-addled bigots needs to follow suit. Where is New York state, for example. The whole Northeast should be blue on this map, as well as Michigan.
Nevertheless, it is ultimately tragic and deeply wrong that some parts of America have declared themselves hostile territory to other Americans and to humanity as such. Worse, some people who are the targets have to live in these regions.
I heard one of the purveyors of another hateful law (possibly against migrants) try to reassure someone that ‘the law isn’t real, it’s just to keep the wrong people from coming here.’ And you hear similar obfuscation about these hate laws. This demonstrates that people who advocate for them know that they are not justifiable on moral, political, scientific or constitutional grounds.
I live in MD, and I'm proud of this. Mr. Moore is a good man. I didn't dislike our former Republican governor Larry Hogan, but it's good to be past his administration, especially at a time like this. MJ is about to be legal recreationally next month, and now we see an affirmation of trans rights.
This reminds me so very much of Professor Nikki Giovanni giving her very passionate remarks in 2007, “We will prevail” (https://www.remembrance.vt.edu/2007/archive/giovanni_transcript.html). If one “replaces” we are Virginia tech with the trans/lgbt community the wording applies and urges each of us to keep moving forward and things will improve, strength in solidarity, the power of healing as a community.

Always happy when my state comes through.
I wish I knew what that was like! (Indiana resident)
hopefully one day soon you will, stay strong until then <3

Huzzah to the good state of Maryland! Adding to my bucket list to visit.

Yay!! Now I know why his office refused my meeting request on this issue! LOL!!
So now there are 12 states where I feel it is safe to travel to/in.
This land is your land, this land is my land (offer only valid in 12 states, good luck elsewhere).
Yay! I love good news, especially lately! 🙂
oh thank goodness, thank goodness, thank goodness.
Nice to hear!

Amazing news
Go Maryland! Not so far from NC if I ever need to move.
Good news! Another state to add to our potential retirement list.
Simple mathematical statement: "Love = Love." But, the sum is infinite.
Nicely said!
