Half a loaf is not better than none, to whom gets none.

This is . . . worse than disappointing.

Mamdani should attend a transgender youth support group quietly. Listening and learning, facing his victims. Is he that brave? Who can put the question to him?

Thank you Erin.

Victims indeed. It makes me so sad. And angry. May those kids find the strength to keep going, to keep living.

Talia Perkins's avatar

I hope they do, but I know too many and more with this evil decision, will not.

This is far from the worst timeline, but it sure ain't a bed of roses.

Is he that brave? Who can put the question to him?

...and those who get the half are left to wonder when that might become a 1/4 or 1/8th or just nothing.

Stef's avatar

We always knew that we were going to hit a moment with him when he wouldn't deliver, and, well, here it is...

Democrats talk big, but in reality, they are weak. We can’t depend on weak leaders to protect us. Trans genocide is real.

Jaimie Hileman's avatar

Yup. And this is why they can't win elections. No one can trust them. The fascists deliver for MAGA, And by inaction, ineptitude, or implacable complacency, Dems deliver only for MAGA, too.

Politicians compromise, I will never do so in my role. Tim Walz had the right strategy, people just couldn't see it. But Harris did, we did. Some people did. And time is on *our* side, in this.

Sarah F's avatar

Harris always demurred on transgender issues.

Joel W. Crump's avatar

I think that gets into how the strategy to replace Biden with her was a poor strategy. She should've been running in primaries, having a complete campaign. What they had was too rushed.

Sarah F's avatar

Yep! The primary process should have started even before Biden dropped out.

Good politicians learn to compromise, but never their principles

This is a complete betrayal of every trans person who voted for him.

Absolutely shameful capitulation to the Trump regime.

Sickest of all: cis children can still access GAC/puberty blockers etc at any clinic or hospital in NYC.

Joel W. Crump's avatar

Trump shouldn't be a guideline for NYC. I'd like to see Mamdani contradict the "administration", outright, even if it's not a simple matter, it's Trump's Project 2025 policy that is ignoring the evidence, pretending him winning an election certifies that trans isn't a thing anymore, MOTHER FUCK that. Fuck him. I'm sympathetic to NYC having to deal with the administration, but at some point you're either defiant or complicit.

Roshelle's avatar

I called this before he was elected, his support was mostly for show.

Melissa's avatar

Despicable. Let me get this straight…you can be drafted to die for your country but NOT receive any gender affirming care at the American age of adulthood???? 18 wouldn’t begin to be a perfect cutoff, but 19 is just an obvious capitulation to the attempt this administration is making to erase trans people. Do better, Mamdani

Jaimie Hileman's avatar

I think MAGA would be perfectly happy if ALL of us "died for our country".

Lee Work's avatar

Yup. They're so dangerous that 99% of the users (who of course happen to be cis) can still use them. Make it make sense

Jaimie Hileman's avatar

A person can't be a MAGA without believing at least six mutual exclusive impossibilities before breakfast, luncheon with inumerable incongruities, and dine with an ocean of cognitive dissonance. It also helps to dream in conspiracy theory.

As a rabid progressive mom of a trans kid every time I've heard about what Mamdani is doing I say "I love him, I hope he never disappoints me." Here we are, sadly it didn't take that long. It's getting harder and harder to believe that anyone has both a spine and a moral compass.

Anne's avatar

Well, that is disappointing, but not surprising.

Cameron Mitchell's avatar

I think the most charitable assessment is his administration talked with the private facilities and Trump officials and got a more accurate sense of what the stakes were and had to reassess against Mamdani’s entire set of goals. I hate that all we have are vague assumptions against the actual, material harms to withholding healthcare to trans children. This story is a massive disappointment, especially after his campaign producing a whole video talking about Sylvia Rivera

damien knox's avatar

"reassess against Mamdani’s entire set of goals" I think the unfortunate truth is he decided the rest of those goals outweigh the needs of trans kids.

p2q's avatar

yeah can i get an uhhhhhhh elected official with a spine?

Jaimie Hileman's avatar

Apparently... no.

Gabrielle Maggio's avatar

There’s not a shortage of care for GAHT (what these clinics can provide) regardless of ability to pay or immigration status for 19+ in NYC so these clinics don’t solve any actual problems and don’t take the target off those who haven’t abandoned trans youth.

You've got to be shitting me.

It gets pretty tiring being always the bathwater, never the baby.
