Good! We need the other remaining states (that haven't actively made themselves a humanitarian nightmare)to follow suit.

It’s really good to see a light blue state (on Erin’s map) take steps to strengthen its protections, especially after neighboring New Hampshire infamously and sadly went in the other direction. I’m curious, if this passes would it be enough to move Maine into the dark blue category of most protective states (along with CA, CO, MD, MA, DC, VT and so on)?

I'm really curious to see how long New Hampshire can remain a reddish-purple state. All the effort spent on anti-trans policies has been very unpopular with anyone except Republican politicians and MAGA evangelical voters. The current legislative push may well be one of the things that finally drives the remaining moderate Republican voters away from the party. There aren't many moderates left nationwide, but New Hampshire and Maine seem to be among the last holdouts for non-MAGA Republicans.

Disappointed that you didn’t list NY as one of the most protective states, especially since we’re the home of Stonewall and Broadway…

Unfortunately NY still has Suffern and very unsafe and unfriendly areas outside of the beautiful Big Apple.

So does California, Washington state, and Colorado outside of their major metropolitan areas. I fail to see how that should make a difference.

Far point. Agreed. Let’s see if she has time to reply.

Ew I just made the mistake of looking at Riley Gaines’ Twitter. These people are disgusting. So glad I ditched that cess pool, makes it feel like the whole world is against us.

Riley Gaines is a blatant opportunist and a legitimately terrible human. Her only claim to fame is finish *fifth* in a college swim meet, tied with a trans woman. All her claims of unfair competition ring a bit hollow when four cis women legitimately beat her.

Taking comfort in the fact that the linked Riley tweet has almost 36,000 views but only 474 likes lol

Hearing all the dire news about how all these different state legislatures want to kill us, it's a breath of fresh air that Maine wants to be a safe haven for 🏳️‍⚧️ people, especially in light of the fact that neighboring New Hampshire wants to abandon their "Live Free or Die" principles and execute tyranny for transgender people.

We are glad we didn’t stick around in NH any longer. Getting spit on before and after testifying against bills and getting our house shot at was our go signal. Happy about Maine. Even happier to have somewhat of a normal daily existence in MA. And with more energy to advocate for others. Seeing many more FL and other license plates on these roads lately. Many more. We simply must align behind the presidential candidate who isn’t, well, this is not a year to sit at home and hope for the best.

Heinous that this is necessary, but hooray for Maine!!

We all cheered too soon. Screw the democratically controlled committee who decided to abandon the trans community, including the bill's *original sponsor*, voting it down like it was a minor detail

Excellent! Let's hope more blue states follow suit. If there's any consolation, I suppose it's the nicest parts of the country which are trans-friendly (Mid-Atlantic New England, West Coast, most of the Great Lakes States) and the deep red states (Deep South, Midwest, etc.) where nobody would want to live anyway and are fast becoming economic, cultural, and health care deserts.
