I’ve said this many times, and I’ll say it again: IT’S TIME FOR POLITICIANS TO STOP USING THE TRANSGENDER COMMUNITY AS A PUNCHING BAG TO WIN ELECTIONS! People’s lives, dignity, and rights are not political props to be exploited for votes.
That’s why it matters when candidates like Bonamici’s Iowa counterpart, who is running against Miller-Meeks, take a stand rather than remain silent while the transgender community is targeted. It takes backbone to stand up for people who are being unfairly singled out instead of pandering to fear and prejudice.
It’s also time for the citizens of Iowa to stand up to this bill shit and show their support for the transgender community, just as people in other states have done during this election cycle. Transgender Americans deserve the same dignity, respect, and rights as everyone else.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! Stop using a vulnerable community to score political points. It’s time to stand up, speak out, and show that our values are bigger than political games.
That was indeed an adroit (and I think effective) way to just disarm the grenade, as it were. She understands how to not get sucked into the mud. Thank you!
I would like above just about all else for this phrase "biological men" (or women) to be eliminated from the journalistic lexicon. Fox and friends are a lost cause long ago, but the so-called mainstream is not correcting this either. We should miss no opportunity to point out the biological facts (as I did in this post a few weeks ago).
Got a text message from Amy Acton's campaign today. "Is there ANYTHING I can say to get you to give $3 TODAY? ..."
I know she'll never see my reply, but maybe someone in her camp will. "Yeah. Apologize to the trans community and actually attend an open meeting with the LGBTQ+ leadership of Ohio. Don't selectively shut certain ones out. Allow the Buckeye Flame to attend. And encourage the Pride caucus to actually fight for LGBTQ+ causes, not just try to sell Democrat candidates to the community. You and the Democratic leadership of Ohio have done more than harm, but have betrayed the LGBTQ+ community. Fix it!"
Thank You, Erin. We can't ignore the light in the room, when it goes on. The way to counteract ignorance and fear- mongering is speaking the truth- simply. So much of hate is based on fear and ignorance, which only makes those politicians using it against the Trans- community stand out as not having the integrity to run on what they have to offer, because it is of little value.
The way they throw around “biological male” or “biological boys” as derogatory terms is sickening. Even if the dems want to make a point about sports, they could have said “women with a history of high testosterone exposure are banned”. Same outcome, drastically different levels of respect.
I mean, her opponent's name is MARIANETTE after all! LOL You can't get much more on the nose for how she is already DOING as she is told, as she sides with the drug companies, etc. etc. Just like all the other rePUGliCONs in Washington! Kudos to Christina Bohannan for showing so many other politicians that it is possible NOT to be an a-hole when it comes to trans folks.

Totally agree!

Props to Bohannan for not capitulating to Republican bigotry!

I got teary eyed watching that ad. Brought the attention right back to all the topics that the haters are trying to hide.

I so appreciate your comments. As an ally this group has educated me beyond my expectations.

Thank you for the reporting, Erin. I hope Bohannan can pull it out. Any small step in the right direction from Iowa Dems is a welcome sign.
It's not full on support. But doesn't do any further harm.
Not really cause for celebration.
