Edit: A line in a previous version said only those against the bill were allowed to speak. This has been corrected to read only those in favor.

Sorry folks, quite under the weather today but I wanted to get this up and missed that line!

Shocking….. Yet again this is the Republican Party. Do not vote Republican! No matter how frustrated you are with Dems and Biden this is exactly what you will get if Republicans win. Think about a Republican House and Senate facing a bill like this. Also, good reminder just because someone is LGBTQ, doesn’t mean they’re an ally. We’re at war.

They're pitting us off against one another. Divisive move, if I ever saw one before. I knew much of the LGBQ+ was standing by watching us get annihilated, but first time I heard a gay man say the T should be separated. I'd heard this before, but now it has been confirmed. They're just trying to distance themselves from us so we can get beat up alone. It won't work, because these GOP monsters are after them too. Assholes ... all of them!

Absolutely conservatives go will after the rest of the LGBTQIA+ community if the trans firewall is destroyed. We're here to protect our rights and the extended rights of everyone else. If we can win here, I want to continue the fight to restore women’s rights.

Expand full comment

I have a slightly different agenda. Noticed when I transitioned that men's rights have all but disappeared. So I will be restoring that part. Between all of us, we will WIN!

A message to gay Republicans: you're next in line. It won't stop with trans people, or immigrants, or whoever happens to be the disfavored minority of the moment. They'll eventually go after marriage equality, anti-discrimination laws, maybe even Lawrence v Texas. They will continue to hate you even if you support them.

Scream this from the mountain tops. They have been super predictable the whole time.

I hate to say it, but all bets are way way off, you're right. We can't trust *anything* from that side.

I have been saying this all along. Conservatives will never stop taking.

They joined the Face-Eating Leopard Party in hopes the leopards would not eat their faces. Intentionally forgetting that face-eating leopards primary agenda is to eat faces, changing the order of whose faces they eat first will never spare them from their nature of eating faces. If only they weren't so hateful, naïve, and cowardly.

The Log Cabin Repuglicons need to rethink their website. If they are only for LGB rights they need to make that clear. Because this sounds an awful lot like they don't understand who the community is that they claim to be advocating for. I swear to everything holy this is some serious nonsense! The fact that they only allowed ONE side to speak is gross. So much for WE the People.

They're for money and screwing everyone else to take as much as they can. Just look at Texas where they were barred from having a booth/table at a Texas Republican Convention. They made a fit about it with absolutely zero awareness that Republicans actually hate them and at best use them for their own goals (like this GA instance).

Expand full comment

LOL they indeed have zero awareness when it comes to the party and how they feel about our community! And yet, here they are still being dumb and claiming being repuglicons.

I feel the same away about the Black community who jumps on that bandwagon for the same reasons. Bunch of clueless people running around, caping for a party who hates their guts. They only tolerate them to get their votes, and that's it.

the entire community tried to keep T's out of the equation with DOMA/marriage equality about 20 years ago or so, they thought they could get gay marriage through if the transgender community was pushed to the side, didn't work...it's only been about nine years that we've had federally recognized same sex marriage too

I am fully aware of what the entire community tried to do when it came to DOMA/Marriage Equality. Our LGBTQIA2S+ Community does lack when it comes to be knowledgeable about all of the letters in the initialism. And they lack when it comes to true diversity/inclusion. It will never cease to amazing me how ignorant some folks are.

Expand full comment

They really should already know about the T, though. They've been around longer than the rest of those letters and must be too lazy to research and find out what we're about.

Did you know many lesbians think we transmen jumped ship & abandoned them? Couldn't be further from the truth. We're not traitors to that cause and shouldn't be treated as such.

They're going to lose marriage equality too. Just a matter of time before the GOP thugs go after that. WATCH!

Thanks for the coverage. I’m in that picture. It was not a happy moment listening to those folks call us groomers and ideologues, and observing, again, from the committee that they fix was in.

Sorry you heard that crap. Good for you for being there, sorry you couldn't speak 🫂

I didn't even know it was happening. I live way outside of the loop and hear nothing. What county was this in?

I might not have been able to sit quietly and listen to them mischaracterize us. I'm already mad this is happening everywhere, and they may have had to carry my happy (but infuriated) ass out of there. LOL

This hearing was at the Georgia capitol. You can get updates about anti-LGBTQ legislation from Georgia Equality (https://georgiaequality.org/, sign up for their email list). You can also follow ACLU Georgia on social media. One thing you can do right now is email your state senator and ask them to vote no on SB 88: https://secure.everyaction.com/OHT6Ksn6qE6yt-miJojx_w2?emci=71244d84-b5ca-ee11-85f9-002248223794&emdi=8791a96d-c5ca-ee11-85f9-002248223794&ceid=27651795

What power do they have to not allow people to speak?!!

Expand full comment

It's a Republican trifecta state, with Republican majorities on every committee in the assembly. There's not much we can do to stop them from behaving this way. Bad press helps, and I'm VERY grateful to Erin for showcasing what happened at this hearing. It says a lot that Erin has watched so many hearings all over the country and this was still a first for her.

They are dogmatic in their pursuit. So ignorant and determined that they won't even pretend to hear opposing beliefs.

I think you may have made a typo in the first paragraph. You wrote "only those against the bill were allowed to speak." Wouldn't that be the pro-trans people attending?

They seem to be trying to split, weaken, and divide the LGBTQ2S+ coalition, which those of us who are of a certain age will know was hard-fought to win over years of struggle. I understand there's no point in saying this to people who have no sense of shame, but still, "Shame on them!!!" There is no low to which the Republican Party will not stoop.

I'm definitely old enough to have been in the middle of that fight and I truly am salty & disappointed in what I see coming from the very people I fought for. Trust me, I've got a bunch of choice words for the LGBQ+ and have stated them on my YT channel over recent years.

The LCR's and GAG's are self loathing queer people who refuse to admit the reality that they are next in line for GOP repression. They aren't only stupid, they are evil.

Democracy works well when you don't allow dissenters to speak.

It blows my mind that these gay Republicans can go out there and support a bill that hurts ALL LGBTQ+ people, themselves included, just to spite the trans and gain some sort of nonsensical political clout.

If you dance with the Reaper, you can't complain when you get clipped by the scythe. Clearly none of them read about Röhm in their history classes...

I’ve been saying that GLBQ will turn on T’s the same way they did on ENDA and DADT when it suits them. This is the result of HRC creating the roadmap for separating the trans people in ENDA. Now, the chickens have come back to roost, and the results will be Trans, then Lesbians, then Gay men (as usual the Bi’s become wallpaper again).

The big question now is, what does HRC say about all this? If it’s crickets, they will rue the day.

Expand full comment

They send me emails and I so want to tell them to F off. They aren't trying to do anything for us, which is insulting. I went to a meeting of theirs and several lesbians tried to recruit me for their cause. I said to them, "If you do nothing for the trans community (me) in turn, I'll do nothing for you." They ran away when I made that demand. Figures.

These geniuses should recall the 2020 presidential election in their state, which Biden, admittedly narrowly, won (famously, now, given that DJT is indicted by that state for trying to overturn the result). They may be able to railroad this through their committee, but they're asking for a fight, I guarantee. I've been to GA, I know it's a better place than this. Not to say it's perfect, but it's better than this, I promise you.

LOL ... I live here and no it isn't better than "this". That's like President Biden saying America is better than this. No it isn't. This place is running as designed from the beginning. It has gotten more intense than I've seen it since I was a child, but make no mistake ... Georgia is backwards too. I'm not from here, have lived all around the U.S., and this place is as regressive as anywhere else.

They are willing to destroy an entire demographic of our society for nothing more than some votes. A quote that comes to mind which is very befitting here comes from Lord Acton,

"Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely."

I think it's more than votes. They truly hate us and want us to go away.
