This is awful. I will be sure to let my company know that I’m not comfortable with having national meetings in a place that my family would not be welcomed and my transgender daughter would be at risk, In so many ways

Re just the bathroom bill - Congress needs to step in and say that if you enforce the bathroom bill in any public restroom in a facility receiving federal funds those are gone. Then they need to get to work ensuring that gender is a protected class for purposes of public accommodations.

Practically speaking, how does this work? The assumption is that a feminine transwoman is using a Ladies Restroom. What about mannish women? And if they claim they are just women dressed mannish why should they be taken at face value? What essentially is dressing contrary to one's gender?

Florida is burning down Magnus Hirschfeld's clinic - again.

I feel like the bathroom ban is unconstitutional. Probable cause cannot exist for determining someone’s “sex” (in the way Florida defined it). It would be unlawful detainment and would result in unreasonable searches. They are explicitly discriminating on the basis of sex by effectively enforcing gender roles and stereotypes. Anyone who is even remotely androgynous could be targeted by this, trans and cis people alike. This will result in *many* lawsuits.

What is worse than a Florida bathroom bill (for those who believe they are protected living in “safer” states) is a national anti-trans bathroom law that a GOP president, e.g., Ron DeSantis, and a GOP Congress could impose.

Do not be deceived, the entire LGBTQ community will be next: marriage, adoptions, housing and employment protections, etc.

Trans rights are human rights. If you do not speak out now, greater LGBTQ community, next on the neo-fascist (yes, use the word) GOP docket are LGBTQ rights and protections. All of them.

Do not be deceived.

This is truly an existential threat.

Speak out. Resist. Fight.

(I always believed it would be the “undocumented” that would be on the trains, but I was wrong. It will be trans folk first, then the balance of the LGBTQ community.)

Our butches must be concerned. This is asinine.

I wonder what would happen if cis people just started entering the opposite gender bathrooms en masses?

Thanks Erin. This junk will no doubt not stand up in court. But it's just a barrage of hate. And I doubt they're finished. I would not be surprised to see identity cards with certified gender on them being proposed. It's what the Nazis did with race.

This set of legislation is so horrible, especially the bathroom ban, that it seems like Florida now merits a special new risk level on Erin’s map, something like a “do not travel” or “do not enter”- over and above the dark red color of other high risk states like Texas and Tennessee. I fail to see how this horrible bathroom ban is going to be enforced, or how it will not ensnare gender confirming people of all types. I also think it may risk altercations in the bathroom, given that a victimized person may not take well to the idea of a stranger accusing them of being trans - especially since criminal penalties are involved.

That bathroom bill is as ridiculous as it is heinous. The amount of money they will have to spend to prove someone's "sex", for a misdemeanor charge, will be unbelievable. I wonder what they will do if they find someone with any of the various gene mutations that exist. Oh, and does anyone remember DeSantis saying that Don't Say Gay was only targeting small children up to 3rd grade and we should all just calm down? Yeah, right.

I was hoping so badly he wouldn’t sign them, and of course he was going to but like... I had just hoped maybe it wouldn’t happen. I have no idea what to do. If my job won’t let me move, I’ll have to choose financial devastation or staying somewhere I can’t leave my house without fear of arrest or violence. Im a trans woman who doesn’t pass well (not that it really matters) and I know that I won’t be safe anywhere... as if the law not extending to restaurants and businesses won’t stop reactionary MAGA assholes from forcing me out with violence. This law will empower vigilantism. I’ve never felt so helpless.

So, wait... reframe: maybe it's a JOBS BILL good for the economy?@! ((Please note my sarcasm))

I mean, think of the implications... needing to hire and designate staff and personnel to monitor said restrooms... and then lab techs to do the bloodwork to confirm one's chromosomes, etc. ((Insert eye rolls))

Despite the sarcasm, please know that this latest travesty and abuses of power are totally unacceptable and dangerous. Likely illegal on more than one ground. Florida continues to disintegrate with an abundance of ignorance and hate and a total lack of humanity. It is grotesque on every level. **though, I try to hold a small vestige of hope seeing that Jacksonville, FL elected a democratic governor yesterday! [[Somewhat expect DeSantis to explode and claim that they are too woke in J'ville and thus broke the fascist laws of the state... I mean, it wouldn't be shocking if he did, right?!]]

We need a national protest. A pee-in? I'd go to FL to protest, but I can't stomach the thought of ever stepping foot in that state again.

I'm overly cautious by nature, so, if I lived in Florida, I'd think twice about entering any establishment -- even go shopping; but especially a restaurant -- until there's some case law behind the newly-created 827.11. I don't think it would prevail in court, but it's possible some Barney Fife character, or a "concerned citizen," would effect the arrest of a trans woman for simply going to the grocery store. The argument would be that a "man" appearing in public dressed as a woman fits the description of an "adult live performance" ("... or other presentation in front of a live audience") (besides, it's all a "performance," isn't it? 🙄) and is (a) inherently lewd and meant to appeal to the prurient interest (think Blanchard), (b) patently offensive to community standards, and (c) has no artistic, etc., value.

If you can get competent counsel and afford expert testimony, I think you can beat this; but that won't stop cops from arresting you. In Arkansas, it was not illegal for a cis woman to appear topless on federal land; but there was a case several years ago where a female sheriff's deputy was arrested for this and, I think, ended up losing her job -- all for exercising her legal right.

Not to scare anyone; it probably would be a rare occurrence, if it happened at all. But it's possible.

Well this is horrifying news for my day. And unfortunately my little brother lives in Florida, and the rest of my family in Ohio, so neither is exactly safe for me. Looks like family holidays are going to be zoom only from here on out. Thanks America!

So is this true of all bathrooms? Like single stall bathrooms. It’s horrible but I guess we will have to demand a change to gender neutral bathrooms with individual stalls in more places. I cannot believe how stupid this is. We have to change everything about bathrooms though whenever we can I guess and then keep fighting against these disgusting laws. Of course, they’ll probably pass a 100 more laws that will be even more intrusive. The world is so upside down. I just want to throw up.

America sucks.

Republicans are the Devil.

If that evil Floridian 👿 becomes President; everyone might as well seek asylum somewhere else.

All this because people “didn’t like” Hillary.

THOSE are the people I blame.

That’s when all this started.

That’s all.
