The WSJ was purchased by Murdoch. This is the result. At best, it's suitable for lining bird cages. But please don't. There is no need to traumatize your pet birds.

Every time I open WSJ I see the most terrible takes in my life in the Opinion section lol I feel like their authors find new, creative ways to poll-vault around any scholarly sources possible to cite.

Gay and trans? "You must be a yucky autogynophile (or autoandrophile??) fetishist"

Straight and trans? "You are a gay with internalized homophobia"

Bi and trans? "Y'all just don't exist"

As a professional scientist, it galls me to see this pseudoscience brought forth again and again. Then again, truth and living in reality is not going to be a forte of the trickle-down and supply-side economics crowd.

This type of shit really bothers me. Isn’t the Wall Street Journal supposed to be a business publication? Why the hell are they writing opinion pieces about transgender people!?

I like how you summarize the issue:

The notion that gay children are being "transed" to "cure" their homosexuality is unfounded. In fact, many transgender individuals identify as both gay and transgender, suggesting that if such an effort existed, it is entirely ineffective. Rather, transgender youth, like all members of the LGBTQ+ community, represent a natural aspect of human diversity.

Beautifully said!

If the Thing That Isn't Happening ("transing" the gay cis kids to make them straight trans) were happening, the strategy would indeed be ineffective — as you say — based simply on the real-world fact that many people are gay trans (like me). Furthermore, according to Eappen's own false-world narrative in which most of the kids in the alleged target group for "transing" don't really want to be trans anyway, those kids wouldn't stay trans and would go back to being gay+cis. So the conversion therapy strategy (the one that isn't happening, but he believes is happening) has been ineffective since the 1990s (according to his misinterpreted data sets), do I hear that right? 80% of the vulnerable gay cis kids avoided, narrowly escaped or backtracked their own "transing," and among the remaining 20% who amazingly transed and got stuck this way, so many of us are living obviously gay trans lives all the same? And yet supposedly this conversion therapy to super-trans and thereby de-gay the kids remains ever-more popular among desperate parents? None of these transphobes listen to their own nonsense fantasies.
