I like to think that as the general public becomes more informed they are rejecting this type of hate, in the same way that more people began accepting gays and lesbians and gay marriage became less controversial. I realize this is not true across the board, but it’s certainly not the same as the 80s or 90s. This is also why it is so frustrating when publications like The New York Times spew misinformation that encourages discrimination and puts people at risk.
So much credit for this goes to the amazing Run For Something! They have been targeting school board races for two years now and specifically working to unseat these Moms For Liberty candidates. They are the unsung heroes of our fight for democracy. Please throw some money their way and read about their "50 state school board strategy" here! https://runforsomething.net/50stateschoolboard/
Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come at the state level- nearly all of DeSantis' most atrocious culture war bullshit happened in his second term, so there's yet to be a statewide referendum on the whole package... and since Guv'nur Bootlifts himself is term limited, anyone the GQP picks as his successor will have to face that. The next gubernatorial race down there could get pretty interesting.
It would be great if Florida could fall to VP Harris and the Democrats in the November election. That would all but assure her of an electoral victory. Based on current polling, it seems to be a reach right now. But one is allowed to hope.
Voting is even better than hope. Need to do so like your life depends on it and take some people with you. Get them registered!!! That is where our power lies right now. Learn from Black people, because we get shit done when we all turn out to vote.
This is great to hear. We have some family in Florida & I worry about them daily due to the hate DeSantis has been spreading.
I have family in Florida and am really happy to hear this as well! I’m glad Floridians have waken up to the Disaster that is DeSantis!
I hope those in runoffs also lose.
I'm so glad to hear this!

Well said, Tara! I agree.
The weird creepo and his team got crushed.

Hope is good.

Good news!
I'm so happy to hear this! It, along with other national trends against the fascist right, gives me hope.
DeSantis is such a loser.
