Definitely good news although the fight isn't over at least we can take a breath before running into the next part.

Thank you Congresswoman McBride!

I can’t even believe it…I just read it and re-read it because it seems so surreal they would act with compassionate morality in a time that’s felt devoid of it. Thank fucking god 🩷🩷🩷🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️

Finally the dems did something right. It's about damn time

Your last paragraph is the key while the bills themselves are much better as you say, but as stated trump and his lackeys do not follow the law and will continue to harass the transgender community and push their demeaning agenda regardless of what’s is or is not in the bill

I am so grateful for your work and for your informing us timely. Let's also be grateful for this win!

This makes me wonder if more people in Congress are actually not as crazed about trans people as it would seem. If that is the case, they are sick and cowardly for not opposing this president. And... if it's the case, it's also a little hopeful.

Does anyone know if this means the appropriations language prohibiting adult gender affirming care, including surgery, is no long under consideration at this time for Medicare and Medicaid?

MissNumbersNinja's avatar

I think so. As I understood it, that was in the appropriation bill that funds Medicare and Medicaid.

Thank goodness. A little good news.

This is great news - Erin as always, thanks for the great reporting - but vigilance is still called for because anti-trans riders will surely be attempted again in the future - probably repeatedly.

Somebody's gotta have some damn perspective around here! Sooner or later, BOOOMM!M!!!

"There's *always* a boom tomorrow..."

As much as I'd like to celebrate this, to some extent its irrelevant given the proposed HHS Rules changes that would block any medical system from participating in Medicare if they provide gender affirming care for youth

Erin Reed's avatar

Rule changes are much easier to challenge, much easier to tackle with a new administration, etc.

Its a huge deal that this didn't pass into law.

Celeste's avatar

I will agree that it is a huge deal that it won't pass into law.

We are creating a comment-a-thon soon. Private message me if you want to join and comment together. I understand your concern. I also see Erin's comment, I agree, and fear safe elections?!

I am very glad they are not in fact good for nothing. Thank you, EITM.
