When I no longer see crosses and fish symbols plastered all over cars, I might consider making my queerness less visible. Until then, they can just look another direction if it bothers them so much.
Even being Jesus, I agree entirely with that. My "religion" is inclusiveness. "Christianity" that fails to have that (they're even calling it "nationalist", groan) is a cruel joke that Satan is playing on the morons.
If they actually opened the bridge to prevent people from walking on it that's just f-cking deranged. And dangerous. You've completely taken leave of your senses when you do stuff like that.
Every day there is a new atrocity projected at LGBTQ community, immigrants, and people who struggle against poverty, or have their healthcare taken from them. The fact that folks fight against it gives me hope. I am a nearly 80 year old white man but will continue to struggle against the government as long as I can, Fight!!!
Indeed! I'm 72 and sometimes lose patience with (or even hate) my cohort, but comments and support like yours give me hope. We elders have critical roles to play in this world.
Imagine being such a petty shitstain that you'd shut down a road by opening a drawbridge just to prevent a bunch of people from 𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘩𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴 on it. What a goon.
This kind of thing always makes me think of that part in How The Grinch Stole Christmas where the Grinch thinks he's ruined the holiday by stealing all the gifts and decorations and roast beast, but the Whos are still celebrating anyway and he stood puzzling and puzzling, "How could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags." And he puzzled and puzzled 'till his puzzler was sore.
Thank you, S. Baum, for sharing with us this wonderful story of hope and pride in Florida amid a climate of hatred and fear in that state. And three cheers for the brave, resourceful, and loving people of Jacksonville for shining a light forward for the rest of our nation.
As I think about this I'm reminded of Chris Christie shutting down lanes of the George Washington Bridge to punish municipal officials in Fort Lee over politics. He never recovered from the scandal and the people who were involved got arrested.
I'm a Jersey native... that was pretty much business as usual for NJ Govs, at the time. Probably still is. Eye-rolling, but not surprising (the time the Gov shut a whole beach down just so his family could have a private holiday was honestly more of a scandal). We called Christie "Governor Soprano," if that's any clue about NJ politics. It's the same 𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘥 of thing, but one was motivated by petty corruption... this, however, was motivated by 𝘩𝘢𝘵𝘦. I'd rather have the crook than the bigot, all things being equal (though I'd trust 𝘯𝘦𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 with my lunch money).
Why do we "accuse" bigots of being one of us like it's a punishment or insult?
Why do we continue dictating bigots are closeted as if only closeted queer people hate other queer people?
Sorry, I'm really tired of that trope and seeing us use something that only insinuates it is derogatory to be queer/trans as a "gotcha" against bigots continues to be disappointingly unhelpful to the conversation. Maybe they're just bigots and we shouldn't want them to represent us or demean our identities. I'd like to think being a terribly hateful person wasn't considered a "sign" or stereotype to being closeted.
Do queer people experience internalized bigotry? Yes.
Is there a correlation that every bigot is a closeted queer person? No, not even remotely.
Are you down with suggesting all the terrible people actively destroying our rights and lives are just members of our community and all of our conflict is self-inflicted internal struggles? Are you suggesting it is a trait of queer people to hate themselves and their community? Is it "gotcha" insult to call someone closeted? Because that's what you're doubling down on.
It's not helpful, it's hurtful. Don't use closeted people and queer identity as a pejorative. It just further insinuates and reinforces to cishet people, and everyone, that there's something wrong, "not normal", or negative about being queer. I'm so tired of us and our ignorant allies using the "must be closeted" insult rebuke, it's so counter-productive, counter-intuitive, and ignorantly debasing.
We will not be silenced, we will not be suppressed. We will stand up, not only for our own community but for all others being targeted by the haters and fascists. This is my pledge from Memphis, Tennessee.
This is why I stay in FL! There are communities here that need brave allies. If they aren’t leaving, I’m not leaving. I want to fight for the state I remember.
Oh sweet because I have a fresh Chizzy Rhonda Santis sticker on my little grocery getter for Pride! No affiliation, just reference and appreciation! Never forget he was Musk's guy. https://www.shopchizzy.com/product/rhonda-santis
𝘗𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 to your friend Megan! We need everyone we can get, in any capacity, any time. Any act of support or affirmation, no matter how small, is a life saved.
Greetings and applause to you all in Florida from an 81-year-old early activist in Rochester, New York, where we have had broad freedoms that are slowly being taken away. I love seeing this resistance! We need each and every one of us to fight this horrible scourge.
Once again the Fla Governor showed himself for what he is in raising the bridge without regard for Fla citizens, but good for them they found away to celebrate anyway - let’s keep up the momentum
I’ve been monitoring the actions being taken by the administration against Trans people for some time. I dig deep and consider myself well-versed on it all. However, today I came across Dame Magazine and it was incredibly eye-opening. I’m not sure if links are allowed here but it’s important if you are Trans or care about someone who is that you google it and read the article called Why I Am Leaving the US. The author is a professional writer and has a lot of expertise on the topics she discusses. But I wanted to share it because we owe it to one another to share so we can make the best choices possible. This one helped shake me from my own denial more than anything else I’ve read.

Since their goal is to kill us, I can't say I am surprised.

I hope Ron gets a sore puzzler.
Sadly, I hold out no hope whatsoever for Guv'nur Deathsentence's heart growing ten sizes in reaction- on this, or on 𝘢𝘯𝘺 day.

DeSatan is closeted with the door locked so tight that no air is getting in. But, he will be outed, eventually.

I just know my friend Megan was somewhere on that bridge. Shine your lights, people. Shine your lights.

We're going back to the roots of pride this year .... a riot.
