Unfortunately the DOJ in partnership with red state AGs will keep trying to pursue these kinds of settlements. If a hospital in a blue state ends up agreeing to a settlement like this, people NEED to sue! Because providing care to detransitioners but not trans people would 100% violate blue states anti discrimination laws!
I think this is just a steady campaign to establish a "presumption" that transgender = mentally ill and therefore subject to legal prohibition. They'll just keep chipping away at spineless bureaucrats, until they're strong enough to get national prohibitions. The "Counterterrorism Policy" made this clear.
Honestly, don't give them any, ever. As someone that is the child of someone that worked there for close to 30 years....this is *very* on brand for them. The hypocrisy of this organization is beyond reprehensible but we're supposed to accept it as #just2026things.
Unless you're a wealthy elite Epstein-files kinda person, my parent said they would go to ANY place other than the CC even - maybe esp. if - it were life threatening they resented that place so much. But if you're a king or prince (responsible for human rights violations) they'll welcome you with open arms.
I can’t believe this. I had my bottom surgery there a little over a year ago. My entire experience with them was wonderful, and now they are caving in to the assholes.
Trump and his lackeys continue their campaign to pressure clinics, hospitals, and medical providers into ending care for transgender youth. What makes this even more troubling is that in many cases these services remain legal, yet far all too many healthcare organizations are backing down because they put money before their patients rather than standing up for their patients and medical professionals.
Healthcare decisions should be based on medical judgment, scientific evidence, and the needs of patients — not political intimidation. If hospitals, clinics, and healthcare systems collectively refused to bow to political pressure, much of this bullying would lose its power.
The blame does not stop there. Far too many politicians claim to support transgender youth and their families, issue statements, hold press conferences, and make promises, but have no balls when it comes time to act, they are nowhere to be found. While they talk, young people lose access to care, families are left in limbo, and providers face increasing pressure.
Leadership requires more than words. It requires the courage to stand up when it matters. Right now, too many elected officials are failing that test while this administration continues to run roughshod over the healthcare rights of vulnerable young people.
I live in N.E. Ohio and our choices for healthcare around here are Cleveland Clinic and Mercy Health (where you get a side of Christianity with your medicine). Sigh.
Just spoke with one of my daughters who gets services at Cleve Clinic. Her bottom surgery was done at another facility but certain services are here at Cleveland Clinic. She assured me that she’s changing hospitals specifically because of this. They will lose patients and loads of respect in this community for a long time.
May I suggest MetroHealth? In NE Ohio their pride clinic has been absolutely wonderful and nothing but positive things to say. (unless your insurance is fing you which is highly likely).
Yes, because they HAVE. It took the last Reich four weeks after Hitler was made Chancellor to open the first concentration camp and only 7 years for the implementation of systematically mass murder in a Henry Ford assembly line style. I suspect this Reich will try to do better.
Not long. We will be arrested and forcibly detransitioned before it's all over. We will be lucky if they don't just kill us. Cisgender people can do anything they want to us and no one is going to save us.
The population of Ohio is about 12 Million. Trans people are about 1% of the population. I don't know what fraction of that includes any form of medical transition, let's be generous and say 80%. About 5% detransition. So that's "millions of dollars" for a center for 4800 people. Detransitioners need the same things as trans people, and significantly the same thing as many cis people; hormones, top surgery, bottom surgery and other things that a medical clinic won't provide like voice training and hair removal. So I really am curious where this money is going to go. A web page, maybe an additional label on some existing staff and some new reports? Dedicating space would be absurd, it'd be empty most of the time.
Fucking Cleveland Clinic Administration - this is reflecting assholes in meeting rooms choosing what healthcare they think is important. I hope clinicians leave them in droves and are welcomed elsewhere to provide all appropriate medical care.
Not only does the need not increase faster than does increase the number of people who transition, the need such as it is is for transition back the other way. They had a transition clinic which was necessarily a detransition clinic as well.
Not only that, but the need seems to perfectly well at least confirm the <1% regret rate can not possibly be higher than that. In the United States there are at least 270,000* medically transitioned people living quite happily. The social conservatives have spent over a decade and more than $100 million chasing ambulances and have only 28 lawsuits to show for it. Last line of this article.
*Could be more a quarter million, depends on definitions used.
Thank you Baum.
PS. No such order as the "Cleveland Clinic" is complying with, can be given or implemented without possibly contravening 42 U.S.C. § 1983, 18 U.S.C. § 241, & 18 U.S.C. § 242. What the Social Conservatives want and are doing is not legal.
It’s a very silly settlement that allows the facility to continue to maintain existing services and staff, as the care for a theoretical detransitioner is pretty much what a transition in the other direction would need.
It will be amusing to look at these services in a few years to compare demand for trans and detrans services.
This is reprehensible and pathetic. I had been directing people to The Cleveland Clinic as a reputable source of health information, now that the CDC is a joke. But that stops now. I won’t be using or recommending The Cleveland Clinic for any topic until they rectify this anti-scientific, inhumane move.
Hello! Are you interested in getting a first (surprise) reaction from the director of plastic surgery research at Cleveland Clinic?
I was literally seeing my plastic surgeon at Cleveland Clinic this afternoon, and I asked for extra time with her because I intend to confront her about the poor treatment and likely malpractice I received for my surgery. I'm not a pediatric patient (but she does work with them), but I don't know if there's a point in me confronting her if this is the direction the organization she works for is going, one of the foremost gender affirming institutions in the state.
Bahar Bassiri Gharb, MD, PhD, is the Director of Plastic Surgery Research & Co-Director of the Craniofacial Program at Cleveland Clinic.
I now have a recording of the call I received regarding my complaint about this with the Cleveland Clinic Ombudsman's office. It went about as well as you might expect (given how emotional/political this is for me).
I expressed my feelings about their decision to capitulate to the executive orders of the demented, orange, transphobic "thing" occupying the people house. She insisted that they write just completing with the law. I chided her for not doing as Harvard had done, fight back, hand it over to their law school to litigate (Cleveland Clinic could have done this too, they are directly beside Case Western Reserve. Case Western Reserve University School of Law is the law school of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. It was one of the first schools accredited by the American Bar Association, but instead they were capitulating to executive orders (which are not laws) and the blackmail posited by the bottom of the barrel lawyers who remained in the [Lack of] Justice Department after everyone who has a shred of conscience resigned.)
I told them that they had betrayed their own providers including my surgeon who is the director of plastic surgery and research, who literally returned from her efforts to join other plastic surgeons in compelling the American Academy of Plastic Surgeons to retract/correct their stance that providers needed to wait until after age 19 to provide gender affirming care, only to return to Cleveland Clinic and find out her own hospital had made this decision without consulting the Frontline workers; her. That my surgeon, a person who provided gender affirming care should NOT find out from her patient (me) about this decision the hospital made (which directly affects her patients) without consulting her. And because the physicians at the Cleveland Clinic have been disenfranchised by their own employer, so I as a patient was speaking up.
I told them that they as an organization, The Cleveland Clinic had betrayed their Hippocratic Oath, because they were doing harm to their own patients based on bigotry and hatred rather than science. Including the patients who had depended on them for gender affirming care of cisgender minors whom had developed gynecomastia, and whom needed breast reduction surgery, gender affirming care, to correct breast development. Now any person (including 18 year olds, legal adults) is having their surgeries cancelled.
I said it was dispicable that not only had the betrayed their own doctors and patients, they made it so much worse by committing to continue doing so for 20 years. I stated that I felt they did this without concern for how compliance would affect the Cleveland Clinic facilities in other countries, especially those in Europe. I said this compliance with bigotry would likely violate the civil rights of European Union patients.
I was told that this had become too political, that my concerns had been forwarded to the Executive office, as they are whom I would address these concerns.
I asked when I could expect a call from them to address my concerns.
She told me the executive office would not be calling me.
Fuck the Cleveland clinic. Fuck red states. I don't travel to them, I don't buy products from them. The United States is dead. It's time for blue states to stop sending taxes to Washington. Not that cisgender people would give a shit about us.
Unfortunately the DOJ in partnership with red state AGs will keep trying to pursue these kinds of settlements. If a hospital in a blue state ends up agreeing to a settlement like this, people NEED to sue! Well, there goes any respect I had for that organization. Which was not much, given that they are located in Cleveland.
Honestly, don't give them any, ever. As someone that is the child of someone that worked there for close to 30 years....this is *very* on brand for them. The hypocrisy of this organization is beyond reprehensible but we're supposed to accept it as #just2026things.

Cleveland Clinic is also in the Epstein files 99 times.
Not for wrongdoing, though. "This includes emails from Cleveland Clinic doctors looking for grants or donations from the one-time multi-millionaire. Other mentions are in emails from Epstein himself recommending treatments to friends at the Cleveland Clinic." https://www.cleveland19.com/2026/02/04/cleveland-appears-798-times-epstein-files-including-mentions-browns-clinic-local-school/
How long until these clinics become mandatory? Asking for a community.
Not long. We will be arrested and forcibly detransitioned before it's all over. We will be lucky if they don't just kill us. Cisgender people can do anything they want to us and no one is going to save us.
Allies exist! We will prevail against these ill informed nin- scientists! Vote!!!!!!
