Republicans never, ever stop thinking 24/7/365 thinking about children's genitalia. They tied the bathroom ban to relief legislation, then called a special session for it, ignoring the folks homeless from the floods, then had the nerve to ban Democrats for it!

But no one will hold them accountable, so it will continue to worsen.

Will anyone notice when red states make it legal to lynch and murder us?

I am not trans but I’m so afraid for trans people in America right now. We need to get organized into mass protests. It just doesn’t seem to be happening.

No, it doesn't.

The GOPMAGAs know this. If they can develop the communication modalities, infrastructure, and means to genocide ONE minority, they can use that same weaponage to eliminate ANY minority. We are the test case, the cautionary tale, the Judas goat, and once we are gone, there won't be anyone left to tell everyone else "we told you so!"

Sadly we now hear Democrats from Gavin Newsom to Hakeem Jeffries to Pete Buttigieg agreeing with the GOPMAGAs that including transgender and gender expansive Americans in constitutional protections is a bridge too far.

I don't think the Dems or anybody else is going to save us and I don't think praying for the humanity of the GOPMAGAs to awaken is going to get it done either. Perhaps it is our blood that is required to refresh the tree of liberty in today's era.

"Republicans never, ever stop thinking 24/7/365 thinking about children's genitalia. "

They do want to abuse some children with the child's own sex.

And kids go to school, some are transgender -- this is a law to mandate child abuse.

Social Conservatives/gender critical ideologues are people who want to abut some children with the child's own sex. They are the child abusers they claim they fight!

I don’t see how it can be enforceable. People can’t (or shouldn’t) be forced to show their private parts to anyone. And it’s discriminatory because it only focuses on who pees in women’s restrooms as far as I can tell. No random stranger should have the right to ask anyone to prove their gender.

The silver lining of this bill is that it ensnares cisgender women who don't pass as cisgender. The only way all this madness stops is when it starts negatively impacting straight people's lives. I figure that just by sheer numbers, the phobes are going to get 10 false positives for every trans person they successfully clock.

And then they'll get sued by that person. Which absolutely needs to happen.

Sarah F's avatar

Oh, absolutely! Tie up the courts with stupid cases in which women have to prove their sex. Some will have the convenience of being able to show a birth certificate proving they bore children. Others will have to undergo genetic testing and medical examination. And it will be humiliating for all of them. There may even be some genuine surprises. Let the witch hunt begin! We are far more resilient than they are.

Except it encourages cis women to appear more 'feminine' (quiet, long hair, skirts/dresses, etc) to prevent themselves being accused of being trans. This is about enforcing the White Patriarchy view of what women should look and act like.

And I hope those high heels really hurt as women stand in line to vote in 2026. I remember an era of bra burning, in which women wouldn't stand for such things.

While I know your comment was made in good faith, 'bra burning' didn't actually happen (I think there's only one account of a woman wearing a bra, unless you have evidence to the contrary), that is patriarchal propaganda to make people fear and reject women fighting for their rights. But yes, women fought for our right to vote, and now it seems women are choosing to throw it away over misinformation about a trans threat (when they are actually fearful of cis men, which is understandable).

Sorry but I'm a gal of a certain age. I saw video footage at the time! LOL It wasn't widespread, mind you. However, a lot of women did ditch the bras. I dated one of them. :-)

You are assuming that GOPMAGAs might actually care about women's safety. They do not. The bathroom bans of 2015-2017 showed that of all the women assaulted, arrested, abused, and harassed for suspicion of being transgender, more than 90% of them were NOT Trans but instead cisgender women who did not appear sufficiently feminine to some rando male's idea of female appearance.

Women were assaulted, sexually abused, arrested, and banned from public and private properties, by men claiming to be doing all this in order to justify their power over women...in order to supposedly keep women...safe.

Republicans don't give a damn HOW many women get raped, beaten, or falsely prosecuted, as long as it eradicates at least ONE transgender American.

Bathroom bans give power only to rightwing men and make ALL WOMEN less safe.

If you voted GOP, you voted for THIS.

Sarah F's avatar

No, I don't make that assumption at all. I think people do start to care, though, when mom, who is a chain smoker with a deep voice and is losing her hair, gets treated really ugly at a restaurant because some MAGA Karen wants to get up in her face about being trans. People do care when it affects them or someone they love.

What is really so sad about so called Red states, is that I am sure many of them aren't really Red as per the registered voters. For example, in Texas, 46% of registered voters are Democrats, 37.75 are Republicans and 15% are unaffiliated. Gerrymandering has a hold on the state to block Democratic power. It will be even worse after this new round of Gerrymandering. I finally got my adult transdaughter out of Texas in May. I feel so bad for the people who can't afford to get out. I lived in Texas my whole life until 2021 when I just couldn't take it anymore. I was going to pride events before I had children. It is frightening how much the Republicans have rolled back rights over my lifetime of living there. I don't know if it has been posted here yet, but HB3817 was a bill to make gender expression other than what you were born as would be a felony in Texas. Thankfully it didn't pass.

The ignorance of phobes knows no bounds. Despite the research the supports the self-evident nature of trans identity as a phenomenon, people say "God doesn't make mistakes", essentially. Well, they're almost right, he doesn't, he made trans people as part of the diverse world we live in, what is so impossible to understand? I prefer women to have male genitals, as a cisgender man, I also prefer the unique feminine nature of trans women, am I just a freak, should I be crucified? Are we that primitive? Fuck all this noise - revolution now, trans rights are human rights, women's rights are human rights (i.e. Dobbs defying the constitution). The system has utterly failed.

The connection between trans rights, women's rights, reproductive rights, gay and queer rights, is something that the fascist patriarchalists collectively seem to get at a more intuitive and operational level than does the collective "us" over here.

All of these are interrelated matters of bodily autonomy: the permissible ways and conditions for using one's reproductive organs and capacities, according to a precise definition and range of function.

Trans rights, women's rights, reproductive rights, gay and queer rights are all essentially the same issue. (That list is not exclusive.)

Those of us who believe in those things have collectively failed to effectively incorporate this understanding into our politics, activism, messaging, rhetoric.

But the failure was years ago and decades in the making. Our enemies reap the harvest of our failure.

It's why we lost abortion rights. It's why we're losing trans rights. It's why same sex marriage will be overturned soon enough. It's why most birth control will be banned. It's why trans eliminationists exist. It's why anti-trans feminists exist.

People who arrogantly proclaim what they think is true, at the expense of others' rights, are what this develops from - they can't grok it, so it's BS to them, never mind that it harms another innocent person. God made trans people, gay people, there's simply nothing bad about it, but phobes are blinded by the devil to what "God" really is; to them, Satan is "God".

I wonder when if ever Republicans will run into "dog catches the car syndrome"? When they ban contraception? When they revoke the 20th Amendment? When they reinstitute Jim Crow and poll taxes? When they reduce women to legal chatteldom again? When they reinstitute the draft and mandatory military service? When they send religious minorities to death camps? When they implement public execution and crucifixion of LGBTQ+ Americans? When they make owning solar panels, a wind turbine, a water wheel, or an electric car a felony? When they formally end all public school education?

What will it take to get fat, stupid, lazy, ignorant, functionally illiterate, amoral Americans off their asses and revolt?

Republican Texans definition of a Woman acc to SB 8:

""Female" means an individual who naturally has or will have, or had or would have but for a congenital anomaly or an intentional or unintentional disruption, a reproductive system designed to produce, transport, and provide eggs for fertilization."

Expand full comment
Moth (they/them)'s avatar

Irony: every fetus starts out potentially female and but for a “disruption” (the fetus being exposed to testosterone) would result in a reproductive system with eggs. So a strict reading of this definition does seem to say that literally everyone is female.
