The 2 minute ad features Sylvia Rivera's story, Mamdani's commitment to transgender people, and even music from the legendary late trans artist SOPHIE.
This is beautiful. Also, check out Graham Platner, running here in Maine in the Dem Senate primary to challenge Susan Collins. He speaks eloquently about trans folks, too, and is ON FIRE in his many town halls.
No one can be surprised that homophobia and transphobia exists among Democrats. We even find transphobes within the LGB community. It is refreshing to have politicians like Sanders, AOC, and Mamdani that resolute in defending trans rights. I refuse to let bigots to drag us back to the Dark Ages when exposure as LGBTQ+ threatened our freedom and lives. As a veteran I stand in solidarity with my trans brothers and sisters that have been unjustly discharged from a military by drunken Nazi Hegseth following the orders of the deranged Orange dictator. Venceremos!
Imagine my delight when that dropped the day after I put my vote for him in the mail! It felt like a personal thank you. I'm so excited to see what he does!
It's refreshing to see some political courage. I'm exhausted watching democrats either silent or running away from the trans community. Mamdani is blazing the trail for the younger generation of progressives to follow. He is also immensely talented. I am hoping that he is able to institute his campaign promises and make NYC more affordable, safer and more inclusive. This commercial is an excellent start.
Democrats who think adopting bigoted right-wing talking points will win elections are delusional anyway. Sadly, human rights don't mean much to swing voters (otherwise they'd never consider voting Republican), and they're the ones you need to win over to gain victory on a national level. Economics was the deciding factor in the last election, and it will be in the next one too. When you move to the right on issues like this, you throw morality out the window and gain jack shit in return.
I’ve never wanted to live in NYC more in my life. So happy they have this candidate to vote for. I wish the rest of the country had people like this to vote for.
Even if it's just a politician being political, it's still smarter than try to poach voters from a demographic that will never vote for you. And also, this is a very smart way to build a very loyal base of voters that doesn't currently really have anyone to vote for.
I'm not saying I believe these things, but it's always good to look at the worst case scenario.
"Mamdani’s unapologetic embrace of marginalized communities shows what real leadership looks like: a politics that doesn’t ask whom to abandon to win, but whom to lift up to build something worth winning for."
Democrats in general need to take a lesson from Mamdani. He doesn't have a "playbook'" he has convictions.
Imagine, having a candidate you actually want to vote 𝘧𝘰𝘳, instead of having to pick the one you least want to vote 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵. Talk about a breath of political fresh air!
I really like this guy.
I can't wait to vote for him a second time (the first was the primary, where I ranked him first!)!
With Sophie playing behind it, that's beautiful.

Meanwhile, Gillibrand and Schumer voted for the NDAA. They are not the future of NY
Indeed. They are the past. I say that as a New Yorker.

Neither can I!

He's the anti-Newsome and I am here for it!

Newsom is my governor but has disappointed me once too often, especially on trans rights issues. He will never get my vote for president.

Kentucky has Andy Beshear and Maine has Graham Platner, so…
I was impressed by this ad. It was quite touching, especially after Trump's attempt to erase trans people from Stonewall.

Mamdani is wonderful. I wish we could clone him.
"A city where trans New Yorkers are cherished." That is a beautiful aspiration. Fare well, Mr. Mamdani, and may the Spirit be with you.
