Thank you for what you do, I really don't understand why can't people see Newsom is nothing more than Trump lite and after he gets in a higher position he will fully show his true colors I bet he will even switch parties not that there is really anything different about the ones we have but he still is a republican just like Musk.

Brianna Amore's avatar

No, actually he's not. He's a Centrist Democrat and in many ways that's worse than a Republican because with a Republican at least you know what you're getting.

What you get with Republicans is the shit storm we're in now -- at least as long as the current administration is in place. The GOP is controlled by extremist evangelicals and white nationalists and billionaires who will never do anything for the trans community other than plan for its extinction and put into practice actions and laws that will lead to that. There are some terrific Dems who stand for trans and other LGBTQIA+ rights and we need to support them.

Politicians who choose to build their campaigns on anti-transgender rhetoric and discriminatory legislation are learning an undeniable political lesson: attacking a vulnerable community is not a winning strategy.

Time and again, voters have shown that fear-based politics and manufactured culture wars do not reflect the values of the broader public.

Recent elections in North Carolina have made this reality unmistakably clear.

Candidates who pushed anti-trans policies discovered that instead of gaining support, they alienated a deeply valued community along with families, allies, young voters, medical professionals, and everyday citizens who believe in fairness and dignity.

The public is increasingly rejecting leaders who divide rather than govern.

Transgender people are not political talking points — they are neighbors, coworkers, parents, veterans, students, and taxpayers. When politicians target them, voters recognize it for what it is: a distraction from real issues and a failure of leadership.

The message from the electorate is growing louder with every election cycle: inclusion wins, extremism loses, and communities that stand together are stronger than politicians who try to tear them apart.

THE TRANS COMMUNITY IS NOT GOING AWAY - THIS COMMUNITY WILL CONTINUE TO STAND UP AND PUSHBACK

This! Let's continue to amplify this!

And here's the thing: the DNC election autopsy actually proved that it was the Gaza issue that lost the election, not transgender issues. And this is why they refuse to release the autopsy publicly, for fear of upsetting AIPAC.

Mike Gelt's avatar

Where did AIPAC come into this ?

Brianna Amore's avatar

AIPAC funds both parties and many Democrats receive AIPAC money. They don't want that money spigot to shut off by offending them.

Mike Gelt's avatar

Still don’t understand how you associate AIPAC with the autopsy of the election

Erin Whitla's avatar

Lemme try … AIPAC want both major parties to continue supporting their masters’ genocide in Gaza. This is why they have threatened Democrats who have accepted their previous donations with having that money tap shut off if they look even slightly like flipping on that issue. A wider understanding that duplicity and support for Israel’s campaign in Gaza is what actually cost them the 2024 election would likely cause Democrats who abandoned Gaza for votes rather than conviction to alter their position.

Brianna Amore's avatar

Thanks for explaining this better than I could have. Kamala was literally in a no-win situation regarding Gaza yet many Democrats refused to vote for her and stayed home which allowed Trump to win.

Mike Gelt's avatar

From what I understand the republican was pushing an anti-trans agenda throughout the campaign and the public did not respond - as far as Israel is concerned if attacked you must respond it is very unfortunate that innocent people got caught up in it but remember they where put in harms way not by Israel - Israel only wants to live in peace without constant threats and attacks from those who constantly have stated they want to wipe out

"25 might be too young" is a wild thing to hear from a country where kids can drive at 16.

Or have bits of their genitals sliced off or rearranged as infants, should their parents desire it.

Or, in far too many states, be married off when they've barely even reached puberty.

The list goes on, and on, and on...

YES, we are very happy about this in North Carolina. ALSO, Cunningham and Willingham who both voted against trans people were sent home by Democratic challengers who will be allies. Thank you so much for your work; it is incredibly helpful.

I will take the time to enjoy and celebrate good news. So much negativity that over shadows successes.

Newsom is no Trump lite. He is the lone national figure to speak out against the SCOTUS decision forcing teachers to act as gender police. But he is a malleable figure who needs to stop reaching to the right.

Joan the Dork's avatar

Translation: he's a spineless windsock of a politician who'll throw us to the wolves every single time he thinks he'll gain political advantage by doing so. As he 𝘩𝘢𝘴 done, repeatedly.

Anyone the Democrats run for office is preferable to Trump and his MAGAts; that bar is so low the United Mine Workers couldn't get under it. I'll grant that Newsom has a fantastic PR team behind him; he's done an A+ job of trolling the hard right these last few years... but we can do better. I think we 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘵 do better, if we expect to keep Republicans' grubby fascist mitts off the White House for the whole eight years it'll take to really dig in and clean Trump's bullshit out of our halls of government.

Julie's avatar

Agree totally - came here to say this, but you did it better than I could have. I really really hope we can find a better candidate than Newsom.

A day over a year ago, I wrote of Newsom that he

" always kinda creeped me out. He was - I can't put my finger on it - somehow too polished, too smooth, too aware of how he looked, spoke, and moved. Okay, truth is he always seemed to me to be as slick as his hair and every bit as carefully created."

A year later, I've had no reason to change my mind.

This is what happens when we tell our stories; when parents of trans kids, whether school-aged or adults speak loud and proud about with truth of their experience. We must keep telling our stories, showing up to school board meetings, and of course we must vote! Thanks for all your reporting Erin! Stand Tall and Proud Everyone! Sending everyone strength and courage to continue!

Republicans want to talk about transgender panic because they don’t want to talk about the price of housing or groceries or gas. It works it the Democrat hems and haws because voters want fighters, not fence sitters. Yesterday, a lot of fighting Democrats won. Onward to November.

So grateful for some good news! Yes! Solidarity and love wins!

Joan the Dork's avatar

𝘓𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 those primary results! Send a copy to every Democrat who's standing for national office this year. Pandering to bigots isn't going to win you any Republican votes, it's just going to lose you the progressives, who are gaining in influence with every election cycle as those of younger generations join the electorate.
