So happy to hear this 🤩 I’m in Arizona and this gives me hope

one down, several hundred more to go

Expand full comment

You mean, over a thousand to go. There's now over 1,000 anti-trans legislation bills floating around the country. :(

even worse, I've consistently read about 500, didn't realize those hateful beings had doubled down

Expand full comment

Maybe it's because I'm counting all of them. Just in 2024 alone, there are over 200 more that have been added to an already existing one of 800+

Bastards sure are busy with this, trying to shove it down our throats like a bad dish we hate.

I'm just glad my wife is no longer here to see this bullshit. She had a hard enough time transitioning, this would've been hell for her.

Expand full comment

It IS hell. I'm still in my medical transition and this sucks big time! I'm just stronger than she is.

My wife passed away almost nine years ago. She lived about 14 years after she transitioned.

Glad folks in Arizona can breathe easy for at least a little while... any respite from this madness is worth celebrating.

Don't be surprised if Mr. Bennett pulls a U-turn again tomorrow, though. He didn't change his vote because he grew a conscience: "𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘸𝘦 𝘱𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘷𝘰𝘵𝘦 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮, 𝘪𝘧 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘨𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘸𝘳𝘺, 𝘪𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴, 𝘸𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘰 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘧𝘪𝘹 𝘪𝘵." (Conservative-to-English translation: "I'm concerned that the people will soundly reject this bigotry if they're given a chance to vote on it themselves, which will make it harder for us to pass more of the same in the future, and then we'll look like total idiots.")

Republicans can, it seems, achieve self-awareness after all.

We can all take a deep breath, and maybe write a personal note to Sen. Ken Bennett for trusting their judgment.

Thanks! I just sent a personal email to them. They will catch so much flack for their vote. A supporting response is the least we can do. I appreciate you putting up the contact information!

I called and left a message with my heartfelt thanks. I agree!! I said I respect him so much.

Thank you for including the link. Made it so easy to get an email off to him. I did mention how I would be following his voting to see what direction his support goes in the future.

As stated by many Republicans “we will die on this hill” when it comes to these types of laws. I agree! They will die on this hill in the end….along with Trump, the perfect example of what a President should be, as we are finding out from swing voters in the primaries.

For Republicans it’s only going to get worse as Trump has to face the consequences of his actions.

Our next move as a community should be to press harder against the anti-trans evangelical organizations sponsoring these hate bills, by exposing their members accused or convicted of child abuse and molestation, marital cheating, closet case gays and law abusing hypocrites that they are.

Good for Arizona!!! I mean it. Every little bit of good news is better than none. Maybe quietly, this movement will die on the hill they're running down full-speed. I have a picture in my head of them all being in a pile at the bottom of the anti-trans hill, looking crazy with swastikas on their clothes. Then maybe a bulldozer will come along and squash all of them in that pile (hahahahaha). I wish I could draw, but I cannot. Anyway, wishful thinking.

Yay for some GOOD news! Anti-trans laws are headed into committee in KS this week, but only as an informational (meaning no opposition testimony allowed) hearing. A sit in is planned in protest.

I needed to hear some good news, especially since I have trans and NB friends in AZ. This is such a relief!

It's nice to have any not bad news.

Yay!! One brief, tiny bit of good news. More of this please, universe.

Hooray!!!!!

These legislators appear to be overestimating the size of the trans population. They also appear to worry that there are people who "act" trans for no reason other than to get into that "other" restroom where they can fantasize about what is going on in the adjoining stall. How large is the trans population anyway?

Expand full comment

I think it's impossible to say how large the trans population is. Only people who care to be out about it are making their number count. Those who are not do not. There are over one-hundred thousand trans veterans, only because of those who are within the VA healthcare system are counted. Those who are outside aren't counted unless they want to be with surveys going on at various times.

Since the new generation of trans people don't think being on HRT is necessary, that's a whole nuther crap load of people who might not be counted. Could be a lot of people.
