Thanks for compiling this impressive list. It's been a hard year for those of us who want to support people to be themsevles in the ways they choose, both socially and medically. This list gives me hope.
Thank you for this. When parenting a trans child, life often feels incredibly harsh and grim. This list gives me hope for the future, for all trans people to live and thrive just like anyone else. It's incredibly frustrating to watch politicians and hate groups targeting children for their political gain, when they should be the ones acknowledging that parents, working with other health professionals, know their children best. I'm incredibly appreciative of your writing. While navigating all the negativity, it helps to know there are caring, decent human beings working to change things for trans people and that brings me solace.
Erin - thanks for this list....impressive and thorough journalism as always. It is indeed heartening to know that there were victories within such a difficult and hostile year. However, the prospect of possible national GOP victories in 2024 looms like a dark cloud. Also, I think everyone misses the pre-2017 era when trans people were not such a bullied, intense national political target....granted there was some LGBT hostility even back then, but trans people were not specifically targeted like they are now.
I've long maintained that the one absolutely necessary foundation for positive change, the one thing no social or political movement can survive without, is hope.
Thanks for the hope. :-)
One tiny note: The "15 states pass[ing] shield laws" was actually 11 state laws, 3 executive orders, plus DC. But that would be kinda long for a quick list, wouldn't it.
Thanks for compiling this list. It can feel so disheartening, but this shows that as painful as 2023 was, it really is a loud minority and we need to keep fighting for the wellbeing and safety of all our trans community.
Congratulations to All my Friends! 2023: what a year! Goodbye, 2023...don't let the door hit you in the butt! I offer my sincere best wishes with Love to Erin, and all our readers in 2024, and beyond. Please stay healthy, and safe. Love from London, Ontario, Canada.
My caption when I repost this newsletter: "The struggle for trans rights is not one to be resolved in a single year; it is evolving into one of the defining generational battles of our era." Well said, Erin.

Great synopsis ❤️
In the "good news for trans people" category: Yosha Iglesias has just completed the requirements to become the first trans woman to win the Woman International Master title in chess. https://www.chess.com/news/view/yosha-iglesias-to-make-history-as-1st-transgender-wim
We'll get to see if FIDE's awful anti-trans policies are applied to her, or if they will award her the WIM title she has earned over the board.
I actually started crying reading this. This is so amazing
