The lawyers for the schools are absolute ghouls.

I was just about to say this. Methinks for them that the _cruelty is the point_, to quote Adam Serwer.

The “if you aren’t suicidal we haven’t bullied you enough” subtext from the school is chilling af

Woo boy. The USSC could really hurt us if they want to.

Exactly. I fear the worst from this SCOTUS, who seems hell-bent on destroying everything we hold dear.

My heart breaks for the kids who are suffering and will continue to suffer. How is this constant litigation, now likely as you report to the Supreme Court, not child abuse?

Donalds, DeSantis and Gaetz have been inspired by a Klu Klux Klan and Neo Nazi playbook.

These Right Wing politicians are using trans minors as scapegoats. During the desegregation of public schools after the Brown separate but equal decision, the burden of implementing it was placed on minors.

Read the article about the first school to desegregate. Their parents were in a panic about how to protect their children. As MLK sang, we shall overcome.

Though of course I am pleased with the decision in this case, the fiercely determined anti-trans contingent, combined with contrasting decisions in more conservative circuits, will probably (as Erin notes) push this all the way to the Supreme Court. And with a 6-3 conservative majority there, that cannot be a good thing. Probably the best that could be hoped for in that scenario is a Dobbs-like situation, where states and jurisdictions can decide their own bathroom laws, and the normally politically “blue” places will (hopefully) decide to enact or keep protections.

Well, we have won some cases recently with the new conservative court. Last month they let stand a lower court decision that said people with gender dysphoria are entitled to the protections of the Americans With Disabilities Act. Plus there was the funeral home worker a couple of years ago. I have hope.

I don’t mean to be a Debbie Downer, but I don’t have a ton of hope with this Supreme Court. For this but also I’m really scared what will happen especially when they get a GAC for minors case. 😭

I don’t see any ‘Debbie Downer’ in fearing that the conservative majority on SCOTUS will most likely rule against trans rights. It seems like almost a certainty to me. So who is preparing for this possible outcome? Please tell me there is organized resistance already in planning stages. Please.

If the Supreme Court takes this up someone in Congress should hold up all funding for restroom facilities for Supreme Court Justices until that is defunded. Let them use the public restrooms.

Looks like it's going to be up to scotus to determine if we're going to live in apartheid

Arrggghhh. And then what are we going to do about SCOTUS?

We didn’t vote for these people.

Convince them to resign for the good of their country. That's about all we can do is point out hypocrisy and unethical behavior. Squash the move towards theocracy. That's certainly not a legitimate reading of the Constitution.

Or divide into two countries with different freedoms. I think it's most likely.

What do you think our chances are with SCOTUS? I’m worried that with the conservative majority the outcome is predetermined unless by some miracle Kennedy and Roberts break in our favor.

Gay people are in for rough years as long as right wing Republicans are in power. But nobody can force the other majority of Americans to be complicit. But we can take control from them by aligning with moderates on both parties, "order at the borders" would be by passing better immigration laws. Street chaos caused by barrier free gun possession. That problem might a generation to fix.

This is quoted from Mother Jones, "According to the Times/Siena poll, only 24 percent of national Republican voters chose “a candidate who focuses on defeating radical ‘woke’ ideology in our schools, media and culture” over “a candidate who focuses on restoring law and order in our streets and at the border.”'

But what about our trans brothers and sisters from south of the border? I’d hate to throw them under the bus.
