I’m always so genuinely encouraged to see someone from our community rise into a public role to enact policies, address injustices and introduce empathy into politics. Especially now. In this moment in history. When so many of us are unseen and uncared for. When we are targeted by policies for simply surviving prejudice and choosing to live authentically. May this be the beginning of a pebble - one of many - hitting the murky waters of politics, whose ripples will turn to waves of equality and equity.

Hooray for Washington’s 37th District!

The people of the 37th District have seen through all the political bullshit and fearmongering about transgender people—and they chose Jaelynn Scott to represent them in the general Election for the seat in the state Legislature.

That’s what democracy is supposed to look like: judging candidates on their character, competence, and commitment to their community—not on who they are or whom they love.

Congratulations to Jaelynn Scott and to the voters of the 37th District for sending a powerful message: transgender people belong in our government, at the table, and in every level of public service

Hooray for the 37th!
