I hope the state of Maine doesn’t capitulate and continues to fight for its trans people!

I’m disgusted by this for so many reasons, not least because I’m afraid the current administration will push a narrative of “your kids are going hungry because of trans people.” This administration’s cruelty knows no bounds. Let’s face it: Getting rid of free food for kids AND demonizing trans people at the same time? Must be their wet dream.

And to pre-defend myself about saying they don’t want to give away free food, this administration is hardly bashful about admitting that they want to privatize EVERYTHING. Why give away free food when I’m sure there’s a friend of the family who could step in and charge $10 a meal?

And in my frustration, I forgot to join the other commenters in saying thank you to Maine for being such a wonderful advocate, even in the face of such dirty tactics. 🩵

There's got to be a way to flip this narrative on them. "Trump Admin is willing to let all kids go hungry to pursue it's obsession with transgender people who are 1% of the population".

Yes!! Hope you don’t mind if I borrow that, it’s perfect!

The Maine Human Rights Act is a democratically enacted law that cannot be overruled by an executive order. Governor Mills continues to uphold our state laws. It is appalling that anyone in any state would support this type of federal government overreach! I am so proud of our governor and so thankful to be in a safe state.

Discriminate against people or starve children. Sounds pretty republicrap to me. They're horrible people, with horrible motives and anyone blind to it at this point is a horrible person too.

Man who's never had to (and has clearly never chosen to) skip a meal in his life deprives a whole state's worth of children of their lunches because the state they live in isn't willing to be enough of an asshole to a smaller number of children to satisfy his bigotry.

Yeah, that's about the most Republican thing I've seen today. Maybe even all week!

Kudos to Governor Mills and Secretary of State Bellows for standing up for what is simply the right thing to do, and not standing down and cowering when playing ball with the neighborhood bully boy. These strong women are role models for us all! Thank You Ladies!

Well, it seems that the news this weekend about Trump backing down on his threats thru tariff policies, needs one of those good old “don’t look at tariff backdowns, look at what we can do to trans children in Maine,” distraction. Trumps whole agenda is one big distraction effort after another, that uses trans people’s lives, and how they can deny their very existence, as his bright and shiny example of when I can’t screw you from behind, then I’ll publicly strap you on your back into submission.

The thing is, who would he be willing screw or to strap if trans people were not around and who is next in line?

Wow I got Trump all wrong. You know when you first transition as a trans female you get some weight gain and that can be tough. This will help them to keep off those extra pounds. That way they can stay nice and skinny like the Republicans like them.

First one that comes to mind is Maine Principals Association who is the (private) rule making body of HS sports. I’ll see if I can find more.

Maine Needs is another: they generally help the unhoused but specifically help students at the beginning of the school year.
