I actually give Trump a little bit of a pass on intelligence since it is just a concept. The problem is that he doesn't wish to reward things publicly that we've had to live under right-wing cuts of that it borders on where i would actually prosecute him. But better to let God judge him and move on as a society, without his unpopular presidency.
Horrifying and repulsive as all this is, it's not at all surprising. It's going to be a really sickening month as Trump's 10-plus years of destroying all elements of honest inquiry, discussion and commonly held values now comes to full fruition. He's backed into a corner of his own making, has nothing to point to as an actual accomplishment, is facing sections of Red states and MAGA faithful falling away, and is desperate. He'll pick up all the shock scapegoating weapons he can find, seeking to get his base insanely fired up and out to vote. To say nothing of the authoritarian moves he'll pull before, during or after the election itself. We're in for a very, very tough and ugly month. Hug your loved ones - especially the trans people in your life - and hold on for all you're worth.
As someone who moved to Ohio last year (from California), yup, the campaigning here is just awful and the attack ads—on TV and in the mail—are vile. I'm very disappointed that even the Democrats here seem to have no spine on this issue.
They certainly aren't identifying a distinct party from the Republicans, well. But it would cede the trans issue. I'm better off if the GOP wins the race, more often than not. Nothing really exposes their less benefit like being governed by it.
For anyone interested in what else is going on in Ohio as far as anti-trans political ads this article is helpful for understanding a very frequent ad we're seeing:
It blows my mind that people actually believe ANYone is "forcing" gender reassignment surgeries on minors.
I can just imagine the scenario: "Mommy, I don't want to have that operation!" "I know, honey, but Senator So-and-So says you have to, so we don't have a choice."
I mean, it's so blatantly ridiculous. But then, so many MAGA beliefs are....
If people thought about the level of health care service being delivered to "minors" old enough to drive they might not see this smear as affecting our candidates.
It increasingly seems that Trump's and the GOP's focus demonizing on the gender spectrum community is being viewed by many, if not most Americans, as either a weird obsession of neoPuritans or a desperate ploy to distract voters from Trump's utter failure as a president. Sadly, it may take the violent murder of one or more trans people to convince those same Americans, as well as some conservative democrats, that hateful rhetoric can lead to terrible violence against the country's most vulnerable citizens.
I ran across an anti-trans ad targeting James Talarico during an NFL game yesterday. James Talarico is running for the Senate in Texas. I live in upstate New York. Is this just another example of Trumpworld incompetence, that they can't even figure out how to segment the audiences for their ads?
Keep getting the word out - How few trans people there are compared to how broke all of us are or about to be, and that’s the fault of crooks in Washington DC. led by a life long con artist who’s losing his marbles.
If people like Amy Acton and Marcy Kaptur win, the institutional Democratic Party*, facing increasing challenges from progressives, may well take it less as proof that anti-trans ads have less and less impact than as proof that the Newsom/Acton/Kaptur brand of defensive, duck-and-cover triangulation is the best way of dealing with the issue and should be more widely adopted. So be prepared for that.
*The institutional Democratic Party is here understood to include senior Congressional leadership (right now, Schumer and Jeffries), the DNC and the coterie of consultants surrounding it, and some "seasoned hands" of the why-are-we-still-listening-to-these-people class such as James Carville.
I love your work generally but I am disappointed by this post. Why amplify Trump’s hateful words? It is not news. It is not helpful for readers to read. We know what he is going to say, we know what republicans are saying. And you even give a direct link to his speech? I hope no one subjected themselves to watching it. I read your posts because they often present unique useful information, so I read this expecting to get to the point and in the end I subjected myself to reading this idiots nonsense for no reason. I hope this reaches someone in editorial control. If EITM starts regurgitating transphobia as content I’ll regretfully unsubscribe.
Perhaps because even in states as red as Missouri, we’re not seeing anywhere near that level of bigotry and hatred toward an extremely small group of human beings. While I don’t watch anything he says, other people are disgusted by the rhetoric and the insults he spews; thus showing that to other people in different states can help trans people from being thrown under the bus.
Trump is a blithering idiot.
...and that fact makes him a sad excuse for President of the U. S. or leader of the "free" world.

They are so desperate and pathetic. This is all they have: lie about transgender people because they offer nothing to make anybody's lives better.

Thanks Erin, for this story.

Wow it seems like the GOP is determined to loserize their election chances

Maybe he “mutilized” children he abused. Enough is enough-does anyone doubt that he’s a pedophile?

FOCUS y’all!
Just a head's up about the post-election season.

It's not quite aphasia or spoonerisms . . . I do wonder exactly what all he has.
Amdt. 25 for the win!
Thank you for the reporting Mrs. Reed.
