Hoo boy. I am really, really worried about moves like this here in California in light of Newsom's transphobic buffoonery.

So we suddenly still have a Dept. of Education when it is convenient for them so they can threaten states that protect transgender kids. Hmm

They will eliminate the Dept of Education the same way they'll eliminate FEMA, keeping just enough to serve as a policing mechanism to extort unrelated policy changes from state and local governments, corporations, nonprofits, whoever they can put the squeeze on. Maybe substack for hosting content like this.

I hope California can find a way to do the right thing and maintain its protections for trans students. The threats to federal funding will be ongoing, and this will not be the last time.

I'm surprised Secretary McMahon has time to write threatening letters. She's pretty busy dismantling her own cabinet department.

“There is no forced secrecy in this case; parents are still free to have conversations with their child about gender identity; and parents have the right to observe a classroom, talk to a teacher, and review educational records,”

So basically this is just the administration acting all tough over a non-issue to keep their base happy.

Yeah, that tracks- dismantle the Department of Education... all except the parts they can use to shit on trans kids some more. What a crock.

Wait until they demand that trans people be purged from voting rolls, or any other program or process touched by the feds (and even those that are not), because of "fraudulent" identification. Or has that already happened?

Expect the worst, because there's nothing to stop them from doing it. And because their need for an endless series of small outrages demands they think of new stunts daily.

They already have. Trump's executive order on Tuesday basically demanded that states not allow transgender people to vote. It's illegal, unconstitutional, and unenforceable, but when has that ever stopped him?

His EO purports to require proof of citizenship. If upheld, the impact to us as trans people is potential problems with mismatched documents.

However, EO's have no authority over states. Minnesota has already told Trump to pound sand -

This is far from "over".

All I know is the school better inform me if my Daughter ever shows Swiftie behavior. If she shows up wearing special bracelets or dressed up like there is a new “Era” I better be notified asap. That way I can quickly intervene and get her on a steady diet of Fleetwood Mac. I was going to say Yeezus which is funnier but some may not take it that way.

So the people of free speech and personal responsibility are telling people what they can and can't do....again...and against...and ..

The same people who in Florida are saying that parents know best for their child. That the parents should allow their kids to work overnight shifts as 14-year-olds even on school night.

I don't understand. I thought that the administration was closing down the department of education. In its last gasps now that department is intervening and not in a helpful way

There may not be a DOE to investigate this stupid attack. Newsom on Bill Maher’s show last night reiterated his total support for all trans people except trans women in sports. I wish coaches and gender specialists would work on a fair way to deal with inequities that may exist in this area. Politicians, the news media and everybody else should butt out. How many in the US does this affect anyway? A few dozen?

Trans women in sports is a made up issue that Repubs have leveraged to satiate their MAGA base. The minuscule numbers of trans folks in sports don’t matter to them. Their fantastical insistence that we are under a literal invasion of immigrants is in a similar category of down is now up. I have trans relatives in CA so I hope the state stays strong in its defense of trans rights.

As a parent, of all nonbinary teen, and as someone working on a teaching degree, I think that Linda McMahon is missing the fact that children have rights too. If she is shuttering the Department of Education maybe she shouldn't have a say.

So banning transgender care for minors with the parents consent does not infringe on parental rights, but having rational limits for when the school can inform the students parents about there gender issues does. You can’t make this hypocrisy up. It’s of the scale at eleven 😡
