Resistance like this is sometimes a quiet but hugely meaningful act of integrity, kindness and compassion. May these teachers find their own protection as they aim to protect their students.
Again and again, the transgender community is being targeted—and this time, transgender students are in the crosshairs.
Every student, in every grade, deserves the right to their own identity and to have their personal lives treated with dignity and privacy. No politician, administrator, teacher, or anyone else has the right to stick their nose into a student’s private life simply because they disapprove of who that student is.
And let’s be clear about what these policies demand of teachers: they put educators in the deeply disturbing position of being forced to betray the trust of students who may be relying on them for safety and support.
I will stand with every teacher who refuses to out a student. A teacher’s responsibility should be to protect and support their students—not become an informant about a child’s private identity.
Transgender students deserve the same thing every other student deserves: privacy, dignity, safety, and the freedom to be themselves without government interference.
So these MAGA argue both that parents convert their kids and make them trans AND that parents dont know their kids are Trans. Well MAGA, which lie do you want to run with??
Former hight school teacher (current university lecturer) here. There may be some teachers willing to betray their students as required, but yeah, you couldn't make me do it. If students haven't told their parents about a change in name, pronoun, gender assignment, etc., there's probably a reason.
I'm so proud of these teachers. They are modeling courage, intelligence, and compassion, all of which are qualities that the president and his lackeys lack in spades.
I appreciate that when the "haters" expose themselves the supporters speak out. Today I am prioritizing spending my time and attention on those that show their love and support. Now I am off to search for some email addresses to send to express my appreciation for not caving into the hate agenda.
Teaching the rights of the individual strikes me as one of the most fundamental things our schools should teach. I am truly glad to see a group of educators take their role as mentors seriously. If we want to breed a world that is accepting and inclusive, we have to start setting examples. This certainly qualifies.
Not just students, but all minors, and not just a separate bill of rights but recognition (with teeth!) that the existing bill of rights applies to minors - not conditionally, not just sometimes, not just some parts of it, and certainly not only if their parents consent. I don't go as far as some I've seen and say there's no such thing as parents' rights, but parents' rights do not override children's human rights.
I run into a version of this with the parents of my son’s friends, who are various levels of unsupportive. I’m constantly afraid I’ll forget to use their deadname or forget their deadname entirely and step in it.
These teachers did their homework- unlike the board members and administrators who betrayed the children in their care. Appeasing fascists never works, because at the end of the day fascists are just overgrown schoolyard bullies, and all you teach them by caving to their demands today is that they can take your lunch money again tomorrow.
I went to public schools in Anne Arundel county through I think 6th grade, then transferred to a private school. I had no clue about my gender at the time (although serveral years later when I lived in Boston I was most definitely gender non-confirming.

We need a Students' Bill of Rights.
Not everyone becomes a Parent. But everyone was a Student at some point.
