The article consistently refers to the trans man as "he." From reading twice through, I can't find anywhere that they misgender him. Like you, I wish they had written "[name], who is a trans man" rather than "[name], who identifies as a man," but considering the rest of the gendering is consistently correct, I would consider that journalistic offense relatively minor, personally. Using the "identifies as" language was fairly standard for sympathetic journalists for a minute there before the anti-trans furor got as bad as it is now. It's also worth keeping in mind that not every trans person considers their birth name their "dead" name. Plenty of people are fine with their former names being known or used in contexts where that makes sense, such as legal contexts.
I'm not at all surprised about ice placing trans inmates into work camps. We have to stop the insanity of this regime. Reports about the apartment building raided in Chicago are beyond deplorable. This has to be stopped. If not, they will soon be rounding up trans people and placing us all into camps. If such a thing happens, I hope they have separate trans camps, instead of placing us in general population. But we really need to put a stop to this before that happens.
If they start rounding up trans people to put into camps, that will only be one step away from extermination. No different than what the Nazis did to the Jews.
Agree, but most people have no idea any of this is happening because the MSM is either totally ignoring it, or - as in the case of Newsweek - normalizing deadnaming trans people are putting an asterisk on their gender.
I really don't know how we're going to get through 3 more years of Trump, and I'm increasingly skeptical every day that we'll ever have a real election again.
I’m so befuddled by the hatred spat out to trans people. Where does it come from? Even if someone considers it a “sin” or an “ideology” (god, I hate that word), that’s no reason to wish you harm, or worse, be violent towards you.
I thought the MAGA position is that trans doesn’t exist. Yet they still won’t leave you alone. They hate non-existent phantoms. What gives?
I’m afraid for my own life (as a cis white male, who happens to be an atheist one day, a Jew the next) because I’m incapable of saying a negative thing about LGBTQ+ people, especially trans. I hope they round us up together.
Fascist regimes need to have a perceived enemy which always ends up being the most vulnerable groups, to justify their evil intentions.
This whole charade is about white supremacy fighting to remain the majority population at the expense of everyone else. The more brown, black and other people they deport or dispose of in any way, extends the white majority.
To add to that, Christianity in the US has experienced a significant decline over the past two decades, dropping from 78% of the adult population identifying as Christian in 2007 to 62% in 2023. That's a 16% drop in 16 years. This is why the "Christian Nationals", which are also mostly white, are central to all of this. If Christianity loses 1% of it's membership per year, they will become irrelevant long before the turn of the century. This is why part of the "Project 2025" agenda is to turn the US into a "Christian National" state.
It's time for the people to rise up - I know calling for strong organized protests is not enough, but it is a start ( I will attend the no kings rally). trump, miller and the rest of these bigots must go. I have never been or voted for a republican in my life, but at least the old republican party at one point did have the decency to negotiate with democrats to reach a compromise. Now these assholes are so scared of this administration and have no backbone at all that they have lost all moral footing. I'm so ashamed of this republican congress and senate
How conveniently corrupt. Idk about the other schools, but U Arizona is still dealing with a massive financial scandal where hundreds of millions of dollars were recently “miscalculated.” Been watching this and will be upset if they accept bozo’s deal, but otoh, birds of a feather may not surprise us
Erin, I'm a European-based writer who would like to volunteer with you by sharing LGBT+ news in Europe. I know that things are very heavy at the moment and you are covering everything you can, but I would also like to provide step by step guides for viable options that I've taken as a queer person moving abroad, as well as what queer rights are present or lacking in the country of choice. I can't see a general email to contact you, which is why I'm writing here.
Thank you Erin for continuing to update. I am heading to our support group at the Pride Office this afternoon. I want to see how everyone is holding up. Thankfully, Michigan has been a safe environment so far.
I wish there were a better source for the ICE article. That Newsweek crap is just deadnaming a trans man and saying "identifies as a male".

It matters to everyone not just the LGBTQIA+ community 🙇🏻♂️

Totally agree! When hatred and criminal activity go unchecked, it breeds more hatred and criminal activity which affects everyone.

Yeah... a lot of people spout morals and ethics but, we're all hypocrites.
That's the short version.

Erin, I love the Lavender Ledger!

Chiles v. Salazar is really scary. The sports ban one is bad, but the conversion therapy one will get people killed.
