LGBTQ+ community must continue the fight not only in Houston but across the country and beyond. If these communities give up they are finished. I understand why some would want to leave this country, but I don’t think they will find another country that is willing to let them live their lives in peace and support the way they would wish
There are plenty of countries that allow trans people to simply exist. Asking people to stay in the line of fire and sacrifice themselves in these circumstances is foolish. It is ALLIES that need to stand and fight for the rights of those in the crosshairs.
I am not sure characterizing people moving to safety as "running away" is helpful. History is filled with the stories of people who got out of harms way and were able to better advocate for their communities in exile. While it is the right thing for some to stay put and fight on the ground, risking their lives and freedom, it is likewise just as valid to make a different choice. When we suggest otherwise, whether as members of the targeted community or as allies, we are actually adding to the burden of suffering.
Yes history is filled with people doing more from the outside, but I don’t think that would make anything better with the racist Trump - I believe staying while difficult and continuing to protest and speak out may be best -Just my opinion
You must live according to the dictates of your conscience, and I must do the same. I left the US to get my trans children to safety and make sure they can continue to receive the life-saving (not to mention life-affirming) medicines they need.
I am grateful for people like you who are staying behind and fighting the good fight. But I would never tell you that you shouldn't do what your conscience dictates. I hope you can extend the same courtesy to me and others who are not in your shoes.
I'm glad you made that decision for your family - Everyone has that right. But i never said that no one should not make their own choice. But if everyone left that would not solve the problem someone must stay here to fight from the inside
The ludicrous Republican War on Colorfulness continues, I see. They'll save their poor little MAGAts' eyes from anything the least bit visually stimulating if it's the last thing they do!
I want to leave but I have my home and my aging Mother and I am her only child and only family. I own property and don't really know where to flee to. I know that it's a lot to do, sell my home and find a country that will accept me for citizenship and I'm afraid of having a place to go to and having the funds to do it. Find a job and the fear of getting out in time. Should I stay and fight and possibly get killed or picked up and tortured and put in a camp to due where no one will know where I've gone or what's to come of me? I'm scared and really don't know where to go and have no one to go with me. I am so upset and lost right now. I'm 56 years old and to uproot my life right now on the chance that something may happen to me is a huge gamble w my life.
Requiring surgery is truly demonic, trans people were made the way they are, they're free to *choose* surgery if that makes them feel better about it, but it has nothing to do with their identities, that's how they were born, and elective surgery is not something that is medically necessary. Slicing up parts doesn't make someone more legitimately trans, yet a lot of people claim it does, and they use laws about it to oppress, it's about hate, nothing more. I will be dead before that is a permanent policy, so if they want the world to devolve into chaos, bring it on.

Yes allies must stand with the trans community but running away is not the answer. Simply existing to me is not the answer
