Indeed. Biology works.

We knew that GAHT was doing something. It's nice to get confirmation at the molecular level.

That is just so cool. So our brains resemble a cis woman more than a cis man, and now after HR t our blood protein profile matches cis women. Yet online hater still insists that I'm a man pretending to be a woman. I've never had that happen in real life, just online. If it happens to you , don't take it seriously. Considered the source. We may be trans women, but we are women. Hell I don't want to be assist women.I love being a transwoman.

" Yet online hater still insists that I'm a man pretending to be a woman."

These are the insecure men who are incredibly fearful they just might be attracted to one of us and are the original purveyors of this hateful nonsense. They don't like the fact that we weren't taught as young children to be subservient and obedient to them. They don't have and will never have the courage we all have which puts them in a place of weakness. At the end of the day, this is a them problem not an us problem.

This is very useful science for standard blood work tests. I've had my results come back multiple times suggesting I'm mildly anemic and have low blood protein, but my levels were in a the cis female range. It was assumed that HRT was the culprit, but it's nice now to have the data.

My docs always run my blood samples for the male range because I'm on T. It's worked well for 10 years. :)

Ironic this comes on a day when a US federal judge declares it legal for healthcare to discriminate against transgender individuals.

This is such a horrible, beastly time in the governmental sector. I sometimes don't know what to do.

The wonders of modern science! Safe, effective SEX CHANGE. Literally, the Y is useless at this point - It's wonderful to have my body confirm what my mind has always known.

Science is ever-evolving & should stay evidence based. Religion should stay far far far away from scientific studies!

It is great that you include these medical studies. I am a retired pediatrician and have past patients and other friends who are transitioning. These factual studies are so important. Thank you for all you do for the trans community

This is not at all surprising to me, but thank goodness we are quantifying it. There is way too little research on trans physiology. Among other things, this study suggests that Androcur/cyproterone acetate is a far more effective anti-androgen for us to use than spironolactone. The FDA should approve this drug, and there is no reason not to do it.

I find it interesting that after 6 months, only about a third of the sex-specific proteins levels were changed. I hope these researchers will continue monitoring their subjects for longer-term data.

More data and research on how our bodies work is always something to be celebrated. In my opinion the conclusion here (that feminizing GAHT makes people biologically closer to people whose bodies naturally produces feminine hormones at similar levels) doesn't actually matter so much as the fact that we surmised there might be something going on there, we found out that there was indeed something there, and hopefully this will help figuring out why it happens - all so we can unlock better health care for both trans and cis patients.

I love seeing this blog cover science stuff! It's super important and I wish there were more of it. Just came across an old paper I wrote for a class where I examined the evidence around ftm hysterectomies. There's a medical myth that keeps recirculating that somehow T is detrimental to the uterus and that FTMs should have theirs removed. There is ZERO evidence that this is the case and yet doctors are still advising patients to undergo this serious and sterilizing abdominal surgery based on that myth. It's actually pretty amazing how quickly our bodies adapt to E or T-dominant "software," as it were. We are SO mutable!

I know this may sound weird, but hear me out. I am a trans man and have been on HRT for about a year. I am also older, 56, refusing to say old! If it's changing the molecular level for trans women, it's probably doing the same for trans men, right? If so, I'm wondering if this is why I'm having health issues that I've never dealt with before. Not necessarily ones that men deal with more, just new ones. Should this be something I bring up to my doctors? Any suggestions?
