Yay people of NYC! I wish I could have been there. Supporting you!!

As a New Yorker who is Jewish, a Trans woman and on the autistic spectrum, thank you from the very bottom of my heart!

The revisionism is very concerning, but I’m glad that there is strong pushback. Just wanted to note that reducing the acronym “LGBTQ+” to “LGB” also eliminates any possibility of including asexual and intersex people. I use the acronym “LGBTQIA” to make clearer their inclusion instead of just grouping them under the “plus”. Transphobia often impacts intersex people of all genders, and asexual people of all genders are often invisible in queer and trans activism. As we fight back against fascism, trans and queer folks and allies need to include EVERYONE.

Cheri Stalmann's avatar

Right, and the very existence of Intersex people really makes blatant the ridiculous nature of Trump’s assertion of “two biological sexes” and the “primacy of sex assigned at birth”. Thank you, Erin, for your reporting and to all who showed up to protest- wish I could’ve been there!

I'm proud of my fellow New Yorkers for standing up and fighting back. We will NOT be erased, especially from our own damn history.

Lazy-assed Nazi pricks probably just ran a "search and remove" command. Fucking cowards. They really think they can just delete us with the push of a button.

Jendi's avatar

Right, because it still says "Transvestite"! Gonna start reviving archaic terms for myself. Invert! Transsexual!

Leah Abram's avatar

FWIW, some trans people call themselves "transsexuals" and it's nobody's place to say they can't do that.

Jendi's avatar

I rather like it, myself!

I think that’s an unfair take.

I personally like that language because I see gender and sex as the thing - you will never be able to define sex without gendered notions.

We need to acknowledge the multiplicity of language and avoid reductionism (like dividing things evenly into good and bad). Trans(and its deviations) has been adopted as an umbrella term to define something that people of different times, cultures and class have experienced vastly differently.

I think what’s important here isn’t the language used but our attitude - to approach individuals with kindness and empathy rather than discomfort and contempt… that’s what will set you apart from people like Blair White.

I think you’re kind of proving my point? To say that “transsexual” is trans med language is kind of absurd? Especially when I said there are many way be trans and (to summarize) that we shouldn’t focus on excluding people but approaching them with empathy and kindness…

I think when people say identity politics fails us, this is what they mean. Drawing lines like “saying transsexual makes you a terf” does anything but build working class solidarity.

The paradox of intolerance requires you to accurately identify intolerance.

I’m not the one actively stripping away our rights and bodily autonomy, in fact I’m actively putting my time and money into doing the opposite.

If you want something to read, “Before We Where Trans” by Kit Heyam. I found it insightful and comforting especially given the current political backdrop.

Hell, I’ll even mail you my copy with all the silly footnotes and highlights.

Eugene, Oregon....This morning on the news station CBS KVAL there was time spent reporting on how the felon administration was directing so much negative executive orders towards the transgenders. My thought is that perhaps we might want to target our activism and energy towards contacting the media asking why this is not being reported on or covered.

I sent an email to the Seattle Times about their lack of coverage of the original EO that started the erasure process; never got a response. But I was happy today to see this headline: “Judge in Seattle blocks Trump order on youth gender-affirming care”…the judge specifically mentioned that this was a move toward erasure. The article is pretty detailed.

Nothing on Stonewall travesty however.

I love seeing people do what is necessary to fight discrimination and fight for history not to be erased. We need to keep going!!

Hypocrisy from the "We can't remove statues! That's erasing history!" crowd.

Perhaps residents of the original 13 states should be encouraged to reflect on how they’d feel if the stories of how their states contributed to the American War of Independence were systematically erased from public history and heritage resources… or indeed for any American to see the same happen to the contribution of any state to the history of America.

One of the great joys of my last couple of years out in particular is what I've learned about trans history. It has enriched my lifelong appreciation of the past and offered inspiration in the present.

Here, we call it the "Revolutionary War". Also, for the longest time, there was erasure on how the indigenous people looked at colonization.

I am so glad people are protesting. I just find the concept of political leaders actively erasing trans history, and references to trans people, from public forums utterly dystopian. If you had told me twenty years ago that in 2025 we would be at this stage, I would never have believed it - would have sounded like a really bad fiction novel. There is something deeply wrong with a society that is actively engaged in systematically stripping away civil rights and recognition from people that have had it for decades.

Thank you, Erin, for posting and thank you to the NY folks who showed up!! Trans history is American history! And, there is/was/would never be Stonewall or Gay rights or Marriage Equality without ALL the trans folks who have fought and keep fighting. Thank you.

> thank you to the NY folks who showed up

As one of those NY folks, you're welcome!

It’s easy. Click the “NO” box for “Was this page helpful?” Tell them they can’t erase transgender Americans.

A Erickson's avatar

Thank you. I left a message telling them that Smokey says "Resist."

Rachel Muir's avatar

I did. You need to go to the question "Was this page helpful?" I clicked no and it let me leave a 500 word comment. Thanks for the heads up! We should comment quickly because I suspect they will bring the whole site down soon.

Laura B's avatar

Thank you for this link. I told them they cannot erase history and the brave transgender individuals who fought for lgbtqi+ rights

great idea! I posted a comment and shared your idea on several reddit groups.

This is an excellent idea! I just did it and I'm going to repost on other social media! Thanks for this!! Done!

Did they miss changing this page?

Take a look at this Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center at Stonewall National Monument https://stonewallvisitorcenter.org/

Bill Flarsheim's avatar

That’s a .org page instead of .gov. I think that’s the non-profit that runs the visitor center as opposed to the National Park Service, responsible for the monument designation. I’m glad they are not affected.

I propose that Stonewalling, where a brick-like object is thrown in a sporting competition, becomes a regular event at this site. Only Trans

People may compete in the main category but for inclusivity others may compete in side events after reciting a pledge of LGBTQ+ allyship.

Love to the protesters!!! 💕

Jessica Tymczak's avatar

Excellent, keep up the fight, if anything we need to turn up the heat. Let's see if we can get the MAGA NAZIs to run.....

Jessica's avatar

My only fear about protests is that They will manufacture problems at them to then be able to use excessive force & declare martial law. Doing so at/over Stonewall would be very much in keeping with Their hatefulness.

Julie Reuss's avatar

These are my thoughts. Are they manufacturing a crisis to start rounding up trans people and incarcerating them?

Jamie Clifford's avatar

It's difficult to see recent events as anything but a prelude to a more permanent erasure of Trans People.

Julie Reuss's avatar

😞 how shortsighted of them
