The revisionism is very concerning, but I’m glad that there is strong pushback. Just wanted to note that reducing the acronym “LGBTQ+” to “LGB” also eliminates any possibility of including asexual and intersex people. I use the acronym “LGBTQIA” to make clearer their inclusion instead of just grouping them under the “plus”. Transphobia often impacts intersex people of all genders, and asexual people of all genders are often invisible in queer and trans activism. As we fight back against fascism, trans and queer folks and allies need to include EVERYONE.

Right, and the very existence of Intersex people really makes blatant the ridiculous nature of Trump’s assertion of “two biological sexes” and the “primacy of sex assigned at birth”. Thank you, Erin, for your reporting and to all who showed up to protest- wish I could’ve been there!

Right, because it still says "Transvestite"! Gonna start reviving archaic terms for myself. Invert! Transsexual!

FWIW, some trans people call themselves "transsexuals" and it's nobody's place to say they can't do that.

Yeah, those "some people" are Blaire White transmed and far right Truscum types.

I wouldn't wear that label solely based off that.

I think that’s an unfair take.

I personally like that language because I see gender and sex as the thing - you will never be able to define sex without gendered notions.

We need to acknowledge the multiplicity of language and avoid reductionism (like dividing things evenly into good and bad). Trans(and its deviations) has been adopted as an umbrella term to define something that people of different times, cultures and class have experienced vastly differently.

I think what’s important here isn’t the language used but our attitude - to approach individuals with kindness and empathy rather than discomfort and contempt… that’s what will set you apart from people like Blair White.

Julie's avatar

Are you really going to sit there and try to justify using TERF and Transmed language to describe ourselves?

WOW

Avoid diving things into good and bad? Holy crap take a look around you. The lines are very clearly drawn out and people are taking well defined sides. There is no middle ground when it comes to existence and our rights. At this point you're literally with us or the enemy. Period. End of.

You need to read the paradox of Tolerance.

No more sitting at the table or breaking bread. That shit is going to get us all killed. Wake the fuck up.

I think you’re kind of proving my point? To say that “transsexual” is trans med language is kind of absurd? Especially when I said there are many way be trans and (to summarize) that we shouldn’t focus on excluding people but approaching them with empathy and kindness…

I think when people say identity politics fails us, this is what they mean. Drawing lines like “saying transsexual makes you a terf” does anything but build working class solidarity.

The paradox of intolerance requires you to accurately identify intolerance.

I’m not the one actively stripping away our rights and bodily autonomy, in fact I’m actively putting my time and money into doing the opposite.

If you want something to read, “Before We Where Trans” by Kit Heyam. I found it insightful and comforting especially given the current political backdrop.

Hell, I’ll even mail you my copy with all the silly footnotes and highlights.

Eugene, Oregon....This morning on the news station CBS KVAL there was time spent reporting on how the felon administration was directing so much negative executive orders towards the transgenders. My thought is that perhaps we might want to target our activism and energy towards contacting the media asking why this is not being reported on or covered.

I sent an email to the Seattle Times about their lack of coverage of the original EO that started the erasure process; never got a response. But I was happy today to see this headline: “Judge in Seattle blocks Trump order on youth gender-affirming care”…the judge specifically mentioned that this was a move toward erasure. The article is pretty detailed.

Nothing on Stonewall travesty however.

Perhaps residents of the original 13 states should be encouraged to reflect on how they’d feel if the stories of how their states contributed to the American War of Independence were systematically erased from public history and heritage resources… or indeed for any American to see the same happen to the contribution of any state to the history of America.

One of the great joys of my last couple of years out in particular is what I've learned about trans history. It has enriched my lifelong appreciation of the past and offered inspiration in the present.

Here, we call it the "Revolutionary War". Also, for the longest time, there was erasure on how the indigenous people looked at colonization.

"Before the '60s?" Honey, I was "detained" in San Francisco in the mid 1970s just for being at a gay bar in Polk Gulch. As late as 1983 I was "detained" after being handcuffed at a cute little neighborhood gay bar in San Jose.

Detained means they made us all think we were being arrested but they didn't have any basis, so just held us with our hands handcuffed miserably behind our backs in paddy wagons for a few hours with us all scared to death our picture was going to be in the paper the next day and our bosses were going to fire us: and then let us go, out into the dark cold night, far from home with no way to get home.

I am so glad people are protesting. I just find the concept of political leaders actively erasing trans history, and references to trans people, from public forums utterly dystopian. If you had told me twenty years ago that in 2025 we would be at this stage, I would never have believed it - would have sounded like a really bad fiction novel. There is something deeply wrong with a society that is actively engaged in systematically stripping away civil rights and recognition from people that have had it for decades.

I propose that Stonewalling, where a brick-like object is thrown in a sporting competition, becomes a regular event at this site. Only Trans

People may compete in the main category but for inclusivity others may compete in side events after reciting a pledge of LGBTQ+ allyship.
