The cruelty of this is, of course staggering. Being off HRT for any length of time can be destabilizing to anyone’s life. It certainly would be for mine. However, for Planned Parenthood to think that if they just throw over the transfolk, they’ll let them continue to provide contraception, abortion care, etc., to cisgender people is incredibly foolish.
My son gets his adult GAC from PP in Texas. We chose them for his care specifically bc we thought they’d stand WITH us, and offer support. This is so maddening, disappointing and unreal. To think I’ve supported PP my entire life for them to turn around and do this…feels like a slap in the face. No more donations from me until this policy is turned around!!!
With the caveat that I am neither a doctor nor lawyer, even if one is unable to access care, one can definitely get copies of their own records, which may include copies of any prescriptions for HRT. One could then potentially have those records sent to a compounding pharmacy that can mail HRT supplies, either with or without insurance.
I used to use a pharmacy called Anazao Health when I wanted to keep my trans health care off the books with my insurance company.
This is cruel capitulation pure and simple. I’m not in Arizona, but I believe that the Democratic governor there, Katie Hobbs, has previously issued an EO protecting GAC? If so, is Planned Parenthood in violation of that and are there consequences? Maybe someone from AZ can weigh in.
My partner (an LGBT right attorney in NYS) has gotten calls about this... insurance companies no longer covering gender affirming care (medicaid/medicare). Thankfully the place I work for is self-insured and this has not happened to me.
do you recommend calls to Planned Parenthood expressing distress and anger at this, perhaps esp useful from those who have been loyal donors (even if not mega donors)?
I don't believe it was EVER just about the kids (or the sports participation either). A society populated largely by people who have NEVER known any of us, has decided that the repressions of the 50's and 60's were right and that we need to be eradicated (or at the very least, shunned). There is a nearly DIRECT relationship between actually knowing one of us and being supportive (or at least accepting) of us. We can only achieve the fairly mainstream acceptance felt by the gay and lesbian communities if we make ourselves more public. Unfortunately, making ourselves more public puts us directly in the line of fire (figurately AND literally) from those who despise us. It's an almost unwinnable position. The irony is that so many of those calling for our demise claim to be ardent followers of a rabbis who live two thousand years ago and preached love for ALL humanity. I, for one, don't intend to make myself any less visible, but I will definitely pay heed to my paranoid inner voice.
Beyond cruelty and religious zealotry, I truly don't get the motivation behind this. There is so much shit my tax dollars pay for that I'd rather they didn't, but that's how a shared society works. What possible harm is it doing to these Maganazis if someone gets the healthcare they need? And have any of those hate crusaders stopped to consider, when people *literally* start dying, how they are going to feel about having blood on their hands?
Add one more to the list of organizations whose leaders need to have "𝗗𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲!" tattooed backwards on their foreheads so they have to read it in the mirror every time they brush their teeth.
This is another example of the failure to recognize that reproductive rights and trans rights are one and the same. Inseparable. Joined at the genitals. Along with all "LGB" rights. Cis queer people will not be exempted. Nor will cis straight women.
At the risk of being excessively negative, I fully expect that trans people in this country who have any federal identification record indicating a gender change, will soon enough have our entire legal and financial identity declared fraudulent. Any record, anywhere, that can be correlated with a social security number and birth date, which covers one's entire existence, will be invalidated. Discovering such correlations is what DOGE access to federal databases is all about.
Goodbye passport, social security benefits, health insurance, the ability to work and be paid under our transitioned names, the ability to bank, and the right to vote. We will face the coerced choice of either legally and financially (and of course, medically) detransitioning, or living with an outlaw legal status not much different to that of undocumented immigrants, since we will in fact be rendered undocumented for most purposes. We will be legally and administratively defined out of existence.
You are absolutely right! The fight for 🏳️⚧️GAC mirrors the fight for abortion rights, not 🏳️🌈 right to marry and inherit and adopt. Those are all important things of course and we will never stop advocating for those rights. But many people, even within the🏳️🌈 community, don’t understand how inextricably tied 🏳️⚧️ GAC is to reproductive rights for anyone else. I don’t know if that is a reason why some LGB reject the T.
And I do not think you are being excessively negative. I think you are realistic when you caution that documents won’t protect🏳️⚧️. I have heard from many 🏳️⚧️ folxs and their parents that the only way to determine if someone has transitioned is with a genital exam. I guess this makes them feel better. But there is no need to do an invasive exam when there’s a paper trail. Just like with the Internet or email, where nothing is truly deleted, a sealed document no longer in effect is still a government issued form of identity, regardless of whether it has been updated and rendered inapplicable by subsequent name and gender marker changes.
I know people don’t want to face this. But we need to understand how truly the 🏳️⚧️ community will be fucked because private documents are no longer so.
Did you see where a bill they are trying to pass in Texas would cause the arrest of anyone who is trans and a two year prison sentence? It was in this week's issue of The Week magazine.
The language in the CMS memo about surgeries for "children" between 12 and 18 is infuriating. Does Oz also think that it's a problem that millions of 12-18 year olds stop living with their parents, or that hundreds of thousands of 12-18 year olds vote, or that thousands of 12-18 year olds join the military? Or does he understand the absurdity of grouping adults with minors when it comes to life milestones?
Just an interesting side note, Medicaid defines a child as anyone 18 and under, so by that definition, 18 yr olds are children. It’s bizarre. I don’t know why it’s written this way, but it definitely benefitted my kid, who still qualified for and had Medicaid benefits until the day he turned 19.

This. The regime pushing this believe only their God gets to plan parenthood.
I’m waiting for our corespondents in Kansas to tell us the very same thing. Sadly. https://thistleandmoss.com/p/planned-parenthood-protest

Fucking cowards. What happened to the hippocratic oath?
It appears to have been replaced by the 𝘩𝘺𝘱𝘰cratic oath.

Plenty of push back when they're told to stop providing abortion care, but they're showing their true colors now. Fuck them.
This sets a really bad precedent. If Planned Parenthood is out, who will fill the void?

They 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 the blood on their hands- just so long as they don't have to do the dirty work themselves.

How many lives will be lost over this? We fight back now! Now!

Thanks for pointing this out - I was trying to figure out how there were so many, and this is the answer: they included 18yo’s, apparently.

Probably because kids turn 18 when in high school? So they still live at home and aren’t employed yet
